Trajectory of Asteroid Aletai Shows Unique Stone-Skipping Behavior | Planetary News

Meteoroids are small bodies of extraterrestrial materials that enter Earth's atmosphere, creating streaks of light known as meteors. If they survive passage through the atmosphere and land on Earth, they become meteorites and are deposited in strewn fields.

The Aletai meteorite is an iron metal meteorite, 74 tons of which have been recovered in the Aletai region in the Xinjiang province in China. The total length of the Aletai strewn field is 430 kilometers, the longest known to date.

How this 'risky asteroid' gave astronomers a tricky challenge | ZDNet

We're safe for now, folks! 2021 QM1 , an asteroid previously projected to hit Earth on April 2, 2052, has been removed from global risk lists.

Discovered on August 28, 2021 by the Mount Lemmon Observatory, north of Tucson Arizona, 2021 QM1's discovery was initially innocuous – after all, about a dozen new near-Earth asteroids are discovered every night.

Defence test against potential asteroid impact on Earth simulated- check shocking revelation | ...

NASA's Double Asteroid Redirection Test (DART) mission is the world's first full-scale planetary defence test against potential asteroid impacts on Earth.

66 million years ago, a giant asteroid impact on the Earth likely caused the extinction of the dinosaurs. Currently no known asteroid poses an immediate threat.

Josep Maria Trigo, astronomer: 'If a comet is coming, it doesn't matter where we take shelter' | ...

The Spanish astronomer Josep Maria Trigo, 52, is passionate about planetary defense, meaning the science and technology dedicated to preventing a space rock from handing us the same fate as the dinosaurs.

Answer. We are exposed. But we have become accustomed to sensationalist headlines which are never accurate. Both the media and the scientists fail to explain the risk of impact in terms the general public can understand.

Scientists Found Never-Before-Seen Crystals in Dust From The Chelyabinsk Meteorite

Researchers have discovered never-before-seen types of crystal hidden in tiny grains of perfectly preserved meteorite dust. The dust was left behind by a massive space rock that exploded over Chelyabinsk, Russia, nine years ago.

On 15 Feb 2013, an asteroid measuring 59 feet (18 meters) across and weighing 12,125 tons (11,000 metric tons) entered Earth 's atmosphere at around 41,600 mph (66,950 km/h).

Dinosaurs came out of the dark cold to take over the world after Triassic mass extinction

Paleontologists often talk a lot about how dinosaurs met their tragic end in an epic fashion about 65 million years ago when a giant asteroid slammed into Earth off the coast of Mexico.

Hollywood movies and even many textbook illustrations depict dinosaurs as naked beasts that roam through warm and luxuriant rain forests.
