UAE to develop and launch radar satellites - SatellitePro ME

The UAE Space Agency has announced the National Space Fund, a new Dh3bn ($817m) national investment and development fund for the space sector.

The fund will support new programmes launched to support international and Emirati companies co-operating in leading-edge space sector engineering, sciences and research applications.

China's Hopes High as Space Station Nears Completion

Chinese astronauts, known as taikonauts, and a ground crew are working to finish their country's first permanent orbiting space station and the world's second by year's end, official media outlets say.

That milestone will boost China's national pride and provide it with new channels for economic development and a possible new tool for military use on the ground, analysts say.

Defense engineering firm expands footprint in Albuquerque - Albuquerque Journal

Virginia-based engineering firm BlueHalo LLC is aggressively expanding its Albuquerque operations to manage rapidly growing defense-related work, which includes nearly $1.5 billion in new contracts it’s won just since May.

The company provides a variety of products and services for the defense industry at sites around the U.S. But in New Mexico, it generally focuses on space-related technology development, and on “directed energy,” which refers to laser and microwave systems.

Blood from a stone? No. Well, how about water from asteroids? | London Free Press

An international space research study, which includes Western University researchers, is looking at how to mine water from an asteroid 200 million miles away in a mission that could be a prelude to expanded human activity in the solar system.

"On Earth, we have a limited amount of resources, but on asteroids there are many rare resources," Talukder said, adding there is around $330 trillion worth of water on Bennu.
