Some stars make it too bright for telescopes to spot far-away Earth-like planets. A "starshade" could help.

The proposed study, dubbed the Hybrid Observatory for Earth-like Exoplanets (HOEE) , will establish a two-pronged observatory—both on Earth and in orbit—to create one of the most powerful planet-seekers ever designed.
