Bad Astronomy | High-mass stars steal planets from low-mass ones | SYFY WIRE

With 5,000+ exoplanets now confirmed to exist, and dozens if not hundreds of still-forming planetary systems observed, we have a pretty good idea in general of how planets form around stars.

In brief, locally dense knots of material in clouds of gas collapse, start spinning, and flatten into a disk. The stuff in the center forms the star, and stuff farther out can coalesce into planets.

Predicted diversity in water content of terrestrial exoplanets orbiting M dwarfs | Nature Astronomy

Exoplanet surveys around M dwarfs have detected a growing number of exoplanets with Earth-like insolation. It is expected that some of those planets are rocky planets with the potential for temperate climates favourable to surface liquid water.

What Happens When A Planet Is In Opposition?

In 1510, Nicolaus Copernicus attempted to change how we looked at the stars and planets of our solar system.

As these planets make their trips around the sun, they don't all move at the same speed. This means that at any given time, they are located in different places around the sun.

Though there are millions of miles that separate the planets in our solar systems, there are times when things align and reveal some great views in the sky above. One of these times is when the outer planets of our solar system are in opposition (or at opposition).

Gemini Monthly Horoscope: These 4 Planets Bring Good Luck

Venus makes the start in this beautiful round of four special planets. Until the 24th of October , i.e., almost the whole month of October , it forms a favorable trine. So, Geminis can expect pleasing and harmonious times in love and the arts.

From the 24th of October, Venus forms a quincunx angle. Now there are certainly beautiful possibilities in the love area, but there can also be problems within the family or partnership. With consideration and patience these can be solved well.

This Aussie Scientist Discovers New Planets For NASA & Her Day-To-Day Is Out Of This World

To me, the coolest bit would be being able to say that I’m a NASA scientist, but for Jessie, it’s more than just a sweet gig. Not only is she making discoveries for our society, but she’s making an impact in a male-dominated field.

Jessie: “I didn’t realise astronomy was something someone could pursue as a career. It wasn't until I started at uni that I realised the different potential research paths that lay before me. I originally started a degree in biotechnology.

Mystery of Jupiter's Metallic Oceans and Enormous Magnetic Field - The Daily Galaxy

The habitability of gas giants has not really been looked at very much, observes Michael Wong at the Center for Integrative Planetary Science at the University of California, Berkeley.

“Juno is showing us that connections between the interior—where metallic hydrogen can be found—and the atmosphere are stronger than we thought,” Dr. Wong told The Daily Galaxy . Wong studies weather in Jupiter’s atmosphere using Hubble and other telescopes.
