NASA spacecraft set to intentionally crash into an asteroid to help save Earth

SpaceX provided a ride into space for NASA's DART mission, the first attempt to test out an Earth protection plan from asteroids by crashing a spacecraft into one.

NASA will use a spacecraft later this month to test a planetary-defense method that could one day save Earth.

Grandview Lights the Future with an Asteroid

Announcing the world's first asteroid "29438 Zhengjia (1997 MV)" named after an enterprise engaging in public education and  the opening ceremony of Grandview Museum of Science & Grandview Museum of Astronomy

On June 26, 1997 , an asteroid was detected and recorded at Xinglong Observatory of National Astronomical Observatories (NAOC). This year, with the approval of the WG Small Bodies Nomenclature, this asteroid was officially named "29438 Zhengjia (1997 MV)".

It is difficult to estimate how many asteroids have hit Earth . In most cases, the craters are eroded and erased by our changing planet, unlike the surface of the Moon where many are still visible .

The team investigated four locations of known meteorite impacts: two in Estonia, one in Poland, and one in Canada.

Plan to 'back up' human race on the moon in case earth is destroyed by nuclear war, ...

A HARVARD professor proposed "backing up" humanity's existence on the moon in case of a worldwide catastrophe that can potentially be used to create a new "Garden of Eden."

He said the Artemis I Moon Rocket is a chance to backup the human race on a storage device that's stored on a moon that's constantly updated using laser communication channels.
