Asteroid today: Terrifying ancient space rock speeding towards Earth! | Tech News
NASA's Planetary Defense Coordination Office has red-flagged an asteroid named Asteroid 2022 UY1 due to its extremely close approach to the planet. The asteroid will make its closest approach to Earth today, October 10, at a distance of 6.8 million km.
According to the-sky.org, Asteroid 2022 UY1 belongs to the Apollo group of asteroids. It was discovered recently on October 18.
After asteroid, NASA looks to crash a car like craft on Mars!
It's not like NASA has never touched down on the surface of the red planet before. NASA has successfully landed on Mars nine times so far.
On Mars, NASA has a different plan, which is ensure the spacecraft survives the impact.
To test NASA's new plan for SHIELD for Mars , scientists' team gathered to drop a tower with a full-size prototype of SHIELD's collapsible attenuator. It had an inverted pyramid of metal rings that absorb impact.
Prospective Space Missions Are Increasing Demand for Asteroid Mining - Digital Journal
Pune, October 25, 2022- Maximize Market Research has published a report on the Asteroid Mining Market that provides a detailed analysis of the industry for the forecast period of 2022 to 2029.
One of the primary reasons driving the growth of the asteroid mining market is the increase in the number of existing and prospective space missions. In addition, the increased use of 3D printing has a favourable influence on the market.

To target the occultations of Near-Earth asteroids in particular, an ESA-backed project called ACROSS, Asteroid Collaborative Research via Occultation Systematic Survey, was supported by ESA's Discovery program through a call on the Agency's Open Space Innovation Platform, seeking out promising ...
Arecibo Observatory Scientists Publish Major Study on Near-Earth Asteroids | University of Central ...
The largest paper ever published on radar observations of near-Earth asteroids has been released, compiling years’ worth of data from the Arecibo Observatory in Puerto Rico.
Using delay-Doppler radar observations collected from the observatory between December 2017 and December 2019, the study includes 191 asteroids’ radar cross sections and Doppler-frequency broadening.

Lucy Zipped Past Earth to get a Gravitational Assist Towards Jupiter's Trojans - Universe Today
Gravitational assists are marvels of orbital mechanics. Usually, they are done for a combination of fuel (i.e., cost) savings and speed, as it is sometimes faster to take multiple trips around planets in the inner solar system to reach locations in the outer solar system more quickly.
The flyby, which went off without a hitch on October 16th, happened about one year into a twelve-year mission time for the Trojan asteroid probe. Almost half of that mission time will be spent in transit before reaching its destination in 2027.
