SpaceWERX awards 124 Orbital Prime contracts > Air Force Materiel Command > Article Display

China launches Zhongxing 19 communications satellite | Space

China has a new, powerful communications satellite heading to geostationary orbit after a successful launch over the weekend.

A Long March 3B rocket blasted off at 7:50 a.m. EDT (1150 GMT, 7:50 p.m. Beijing time) on Saturday (Nov. 5) from the Xichang Satellite Launch Center in southwest China.

Space Manufacturing Could Turn Rocket Debris Into Lunar Outposts

"The upper stage is really a large fuel tank," Harris explains. "Something like 90 percent of the mass of a rocket when it launches is fuel. Our concept is to take all of that volume there and then use it for something."

Using a technique called friction milling, the robotic arm used a commercial cutting tool at a high speed to soften the metal while cutting it and reducing debris. The enclosure that held the robotic arm and metal samples was on a Nanoracks circuit.

Cyberattack on observatory in Chile raises concerns about security of space tech - The Record by ...

Although the threat has been contained, it is not yet possible to estimate when the observatory will return to normal operations, according to its statement.

An investigation into the incident is ongoing, and the damage caused by the cyberattack is not yet clear. ALMA did not respond to an inquiry from The Record.
