A springer spaniel named Jac is helping Scottish utility SP Energy Networks to maintain its grid by sniffing out faults on the deeply buried grid before they manifest, saving engineers time and effort.
According to media reports , Jac can sniff oil and hydrocarbon gasses that are released by faulty oil-filled cables through both earth and tarmac, and when he does, he indicates he has discovered a fault by raising his front paw.
What the rise of the robots means for BT | Light Reading
A "Festival of Robotics" conjured images of dancing androids and canape-serving cyborgs, or at least one of those Boston Dynamics monstrosities that resembles a fleshless Terminator but moves like a gymnast.
The weather didn't help. "The rain has had a squashing impact on our ability to have a beer tent and open summer garden, but we will have dancing and other exciting things such as robot wars," said a spokesperson at a mid-morning presentation.
Worldwide Agricultural Robots Industry to 2028 - Featuring Agrobot, Harvest Automation, Rowbot and ...
The study by the publisher suggests that the global agricultural robots market would show an uptrend at a CAGR of 19.98% over the forecast period 2022-2028.
The market's growth is supported by factors such as a shortage of labor, the need to protect crops from excessive pesticide use, and the rising demand for cost-effective solutions. The rising food demand causes an increase in labor requirements.
Humanoid robots won't roam our streets any time soon - Verdict
Those ethical considerations are clearly worthwhile, but before it's time to roll out the old Turing test, the technology actually has to materialise first. Despite decades of trial and error, those humaniod robots still don't roam our streets, factories and homes.
Nevertheless, the topic of humanoid robots made its way back into the news recently, thanks to Elon Musk's Tesla unveiling the long-rumoured humanoid robot Optimus in September. The robot staggered around on stage, waved and demonstrated its holding capacity.
A deep learning model that generates nonverbal social behavior for robots
Researchers at the Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI) in Korea have recently developed a deep learning-based model that could help to produce engaging nonverbal social behaviors, such as hugging or shaking someone's hand, in robots.
The artificial neural network (ANN)-based architecture developed by Ko and his colleagues combines the Seq2Seq (sequence-to-sequence) model introduced by Google researchers in 2014 with generative adversarial networks (GANs).
Integrating Mobile Robots From Different Vendors | Supply and Demand Chain Executive
Forward-thinking warehouse managers shouldn't wait for their competitors to act first: now is the time to consider integrating large and diverse fleets of mobile robots into fully automated workflows.
Demand for e-commerce in the United States is soaring, and the labor shortage is not going away. One way that logistics companies can mitigate these problems is with better mobile robot automation. Many warehouses are now starting to think about full workflow automation.

2022 RTIH Innovation Awards nominee Spacee boosts Deming shelf-mounted robots offering — ...
Skip Howard, Founder and CEO at Spacee , says: "There is a huge gap between what data retailers can collect in their e-commerce operations and what they can get from physical stores."
The robots roam across shelves capturing inventory data. Spacee says that, while it can take several days for staff to capture inventory manually and a full day for a floor robot, Deming can provide an accurate inventory accounting of an entire facility in under a minute.
