Astro Bob: Asteroid discovered just hours before crashing to Earth - Duluth News Tribune | News, ...

Based on preliminary calculations of its orbit, the object, now called 2022 WJ 1 , would slam into the atmosphere and produce a spectacular fireball over the Great Lakes region just a few hours after its discovery.

Doorbell and security cameras recorded the brilliant object as it shattered into pieces during its long flight. Doppler weather radar in the region picked up signs of meteorites falling along the south shore of Lake Ontario.

Drones track down fragments of asteroid in SA outback – Australian Aviation

Curtin and Monash researchers have used drones to help locate pieces of a six-tonne asteroid that crashed in the SA Outback in 2013.

The team also used data from weather radars and satellites to narrow the search down to a six-kilometre "likely fall zone" north of Port Augusta.

Pristine meteorite found within hours of hitting Earth | Astronomy.com

Four of 10 Cubesats Launch by SLS Rocket Have Likely Failed

Japan's tiny lunar lander never got to touch down on the Moon, as it failed to communicate with ground controllers shortly after launching aboard NASA's Space Launch System (SLS) rocket.

OMOTENASHI was supposed to land on the Moon and explore its surface as the world's smallest lunar lander. The mission launched on November 16 from Kennedy Space Center, tucked inside SLS along with 9 other cubesats.

Investigators launch search for possible UFO crash near Australian coast | Daily Mail Online

A controversial Harvard scientist says he is launching an expedition to retrieve a meteor that he believes is actually alien technology lying at the bottom of Pacific Ocean.

In April, the US Space Command confirmed that a meteor that hit Earth in January 2014 did come from another solar system and is therefore the first known interstellar object.
