Should We Still Be Sending Astronauts to Space? - The New York Times

Since the final Apollo mission in 1972, the moon has been undisturbed by human footsteps. But that may soon change. NASA plans to send astronauts back to the moon this decade in a series of spaceflights called the Artemis program.

The first planned launch is a test flight with no crew members aboard. NASA has postponed the flight twice so far, including on Saturday [Sept. 3], because of technical issues during the launch countdown, and will reschedule a third try soon.

See a Solar Snake Slither Across the Sun's Surface – At 380,000 Miles per Hour

Plasma is a state of matter much like the more familiar solid, liquid and gas. Plasmas are so incredibly hot, that the electrons leave their atoms, making it essentially a gas of charged particles. As charged particles, they are therefore susceptible to magnetic fields.

For the spacecraft's Energetic Particle Detector (EPD), the eruption was one of the most intense solar energetic particle events detected so far by the instrument. "It's a really nice combination of datasets that we only get from Solar Orbiter," says David.

Panel to Explore How to Increase Diversity in STEM Fields | Old Dominion University

The fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics are more demographically diverse than they used to be. Granted, that's progress.

But a 2021 analysis by the Pew Research Center found that, in those fields, Black and Hispanic workers remained underrepresented compared to their share of all workers. The same study found that female employees were underrepresented in physical sciences, computing and engineering.
