Cary buys solar system to power wastewater plant

The town of Cary didn't have to look far for a way to reduce the carbon footprint at a municipal wastewater treatment plant.

For nearly a decade, the town leased land at its South Cary Water Reclamation Facility to a company that operated an onsite array of 6,000 solar panels and sold the power generated there to Duke Energy.

Astronomers Discover Closest Black Hole to Earth – In Our Cosmic Backyard

"Take the Solar System, put a black hole where the Sun is, and the Sun where the Earth is, and you get this system." — Kareem El-Badry

Black holes are the most extreme objects in the Universe.

"When we had the first indications that the system contained a black hole, we only had one week before the two objects were at the closest separation in their orbits. Measurements at this point are essential to make accurate mass estimates in a binary system," said El-Badry.

Research Claims There Could Be 4 Quintillion Alien Spacecraft In Our Solar System

Famed Harvard astronomer Avi Loeb strikes again, this time with an exhilarating yet-to-be-peer reviewed research that claims there might be about 4 quintillion (4,000,000,000,000,000,000) alien spacecraft in our solar system .

Four quintillion alien spacecraft could be lurking in our solar system, the speculative study says . The study was spotted first by The Daily Beast, and builds on the discovery of an interstellar object known as 'Oumuamua in 2017.

Use Magnetic Fields To Understand Space Weather - Science Friday

The Sun generates an incredible amount of energy, energy that you can see and feel as light and heat. Other forms of energy from the Sun are invisible to humans. Even if you can't see them, the charged particles, magnetic fields, and gamma and x-rays the Sun makes affect the Earth.

You may not realize it, but there is weather in space, driven by the Sun. Solar weather affects the Earth in many ways, not all good. To understand how that happens, you must understand solar wind and magnetic fields.

How to See the Election Day 'Blood Moon' Total Lunar Eclipse on Nov. 8 - CNET

A "blood moon" total lunar eclipse will take place in the US on Election Day, Nov. 8. Decide for yourself if that's a foreboding omen or a sign of providence.

The four seasons, as you likely know, have to do with the tilt of the Earth on its axis and the Northern and Southern Hemispheres' orientation toward the sun. But eclipse seasons have to do with where the moon lines up between Earth and the sun.
