SPY-NACO Imaging Survey for Planets around Young stars.

We present the statistical analysis of a subsample of 45 young stars surrounded by protoplanetary disks (PPDs). This is the largest imaging survey uniquely focused on PPDs to date.

Our goal is to search for young forming companions embedded in the disk material and to constrain their occurrence rate in relation to the formation mechanism. We used principal component analysis based point spread function subtraction techniques to reveal young companions forming in the disks.

'Ten Planets' Review: A Philosophical Exercise of Cosmic Proportions | Arts | The Harvard Crimson

Herrera's fifth book "Ten Planets" poses a challenge to his commitment not to write a "thesis novel." Translated from the Spanish by long-time collaborator Lisa Dillman, this collection of short stories is Herrera's first foray into science-fiction.

Within each of the novel's 13 short stories, Herrera creates thought-provoking characters and settings. In "Whole Entero," a gut bacterium spontaneously gains consciousness. Imbued with subtle absurdity and humor, the story tracks the organism as it contemplates existence.

Star Wars: The Old Republic - All Starting Planets, Ranked

If you're a fan of MMORPGs and Star Wars, you came to the right place. The Old Republic takes place in an era far before the prequels, showing a time when the Galactic Republic and the Sith Empire existed at the same time, and all the conflict caused by that.

Based on atmosphere, storyline, and overall organization, which starting planet is the best to begin your adventure? Granted, you should pick stories that seem interesting to you, but the first world is responsible for the first impression.

Stellar Space Weather Effects On Potentially Habitable Planets - Astrobiology

Stellar activity can reveal itself in the form of radiation (eg, enhanced X-ray coronal emission, flares) and particles (eg, winds, coronal mass ejections). Together, these phenomena shape the space weather around (exo)planets.

As stars evolve, so do their different forms of activity — in general, younger solar-like stars have stronger winds, enhanced flare occurrence and likely more frequent coronal mass ejections.

Baby Gas Giants Cast Shadows on Their Siblings - Universe Today

Planet formation takes place inside an almost impenetrable veil of dust. As our telescopes and instruments become more capable, we’re getting better looks at the process.

Many Universe Today readers know the basics of planet formation. It starts with a young star forming inside a molecular cloud and a rotating disk of gas and dust forming around the star. Dust grains in the disk begin to clump together, and larger rocks and boulders form.

Astronomers Directly Image a Jupiter-Sized Planet Orbiting a Sunlike Star - Universe Today

According to the most widely-accepted theory, planetary systems form from large clouds of dust and gas that form disks around young stars. Over time, these disks accrete to create planets of varying size, composition, and distance from their parent star.

This includes the SpHere INfrared survey for Exoplanets (SHINE) consortium, an international team of astronomers dedicated to studying star systems in formation.
