Top 5 astronomical events wowed the world in 2022
On May 12 scientists from the Event Horizon Telescope (EHT) released an image of the black hole at the center of our galaxy, the Milky Way. The EHT is a worldwide network of radio telescopes that use radio waves instead of light to "see" the universe.
On September 26th NASA's Double Asteroid Redirection Test (DART) smashed into the asteroid Dimorphos. DART was the first planetary defense demonstration to see if we could successfully change the orbit of an incoming object.
The possible future of space and what should space educators do
The increasing popularity of space is evident in the media and the public's fascination with all things related to space.
Space educators should take advantage of this tailwind and use it to inspire the next generation of space explorers. They should encourage young people to learn about the various aspects of space science and engineering and to consider pursuing careers in these fields.

Tiny interstellar probes could carry engineered microbes to other stars | Space
Microbes carried by laser-propelled sails could serve as interstellar probes that can build communications stations to phone home from Alpha Centauri, suggests a scientist known for wanting to resurrect extinct woolly mammoths and use DNA to detect dark matter.
In theory, spacecraft using conventional rockets would require thousands of years to complete an interstellar voyage.
