2022 was no doubt a momentous year for humanity’s achievements in space exploration. The most significant was Nasa’s Artemis 1, which marks the first steps on a long road to take humans back to the moon almost 50 years after Apollo 17, the last crewed mission.

The year also saw private space technology companies take on roles previously reserved for well-funded government space agencies.

Appropriators Boost FY2023 Space Force Funding – SpacePolicyOnline.com

The final version of the FY2023 defense appropriations bill will boost funding for the U.S. Space Force not only above FY2022, but over President Biden’s request — a new total of $26.3 billion.

As introduced at about 2:00 am ET this morning, the bill (H.R. 2617) provides $26,289,948,000 for the Space Force, which is celebrating its third birthday today.

Defence minister seeks adequate funding for space technology

The Minister of Defence, retired Maj.-Gen. Bashir Magashi, has sought for more funding of satellite space technology to enhance operational capacity of the Nigerian Armed Forces.

Magashi, who was represented by the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Lucky Irabor, made the call at the inauguration of operational facilities for the Defence Space Administration (DSA), on Tuesday in Abuja.

UC San Diego Researchers Earn Air Force Young Investigator Awards

Three researchers at the University of California San Diego have been selected to receive Young Investigator Research Program awards from the Air Force Office of Scientific Research, the basic research arm of the Air Force Research Lab.

The 2023 Young Investigator Research Program (YIP) recipients from UC San Diego are Assistant Professor of Nanoengineering Zeinab Jahed, Assistant Professor of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Lisa Poulikakos, and Assistant Professor of Chemistry and Biochemistry Nathan Romero.
