Inside Amazon's robotics facility where we build and test new robots

Tucked away in a small suburb on the outskirts of Boston, an Amazon Robotics facility serves as the unassuming birthplace of some of the company's most exciting technologies. From the outside, the facility looks like any other building in the area.

A nod to Amazon's innovation mindset greeted us in the lobby, where a digital art display of black metal rods and circular lights spanned a wall behind the reception desk. The slow, subtle light transitions were mesmerizing—we could have stared at it all day.

People have been asking that question for an astonishingly long time.

At the level of the economy as a whole, the verdict is clear: So far, machines haven't done away with the need for workers. US workers are almost five times as productive as they were in the early postwar years, but there has been no long-term upward trend in unemployment.

In Defense of Studying Unserious Things: Aliens and Robots | Psychology Today

One lesson many psychologists learn early in graduate school is to focus on topics that are serious . We are taught both explicitly and tacitly to hone in on phenomena that are connected to big theoretical frameworks and debates—that have long lineages and much literature.

Each of these topics at some point in the past was likely considered unserious . But if you were a psychology Ph.D. student today, it's fairly unlikely your advisor would steer you away from any of them. But what about aliens? Or robots? Or psychic powers?

Swiss researchers create self-healing skin for robots - SWI swissinfo.ch

Scientists have used a 3D printer to print a skin for a robot which can repair itself after being damaged.

They used a 3D printer to create a grid made of a hydrogel loaded with the Ganoderma lucidum fungus. Similarly to food mould, fungal mycelia – i.e. the root network of the fungi – then colonised this printed grid.
