In Defense of Studying Unserious Things: Aliens and Robots | Psychology Today

One lesson many psychologists learn early in graduate school is to focus on topics that are serious . We are taught both explicitly and tacitly to hone in on phenomena that are connected to big theoretical frameworks and debates—that have long lineages and much literature.

Each of these topics at some point in the past was likely considered unserious . But if you were a psychology Ph.D. student today, it's fairly unlikely your advisor would steer you away from any of them. But what about aliens? Or robots? Or psychic powers?

Some Acura Sedans Recalled Over Possible Tire Damage (Blame Robots) - TheStreet

A machine built by humans to serve humans suddenly gets its circuits out of joint and pretty soon the androids are getting antsy.

One of Unimate’s biggest responsibilities was spot welding, and that list expanded to other duties over time. The Stanford Arm was developed in 1969, followed by the Silver Arm in 1974,

Making friends with robots - Washington Times

Nowadays, alarmists hyperventilate about robots, artificial intelligence and the marriage of the two in self-programming machines.

Business and government responses to pandemic shutdowns — working from home, Zoom and other collaborative technologies — have proved enduring and are permanently reshaping cities, workers' expectations and labor markets.

Commentary: Beware a world where artists are replaced by robots.

In minutes or hours, apps such as Stable Diffusion and Midjourney can churn out polished, detailed images based on text prompts — and they do it for a few dollars or for free.

Like many artists, I've looked in horror at generative image AI, a technology that is poised to eliminate humans from the field of illustration.

Should rabbis fear robots? - JNS.org

(December 27, 2022 / JNS) An artificial intelligence language chatbox called ChatGPT , launched in San Francisco on Nov. 30, has piqued the interest of many, attracting more than a million users in its first week of existence.

Israeli high tech-guru Hillel Fuld asked for and got a D'var Torah (sermon) . Though not written to the standards of a rabbi, it would have been fine for someone’s bar or bat mitzvah, as long as personal touches were added.
