NASA primarily uses radio frequency to communicate with spacecraft, but with sights set on human exploration of the Moon and Mars and the development of enhanced scientific instruments, NASA needs more efficient communications systems to transmit significant amounts of data.

"TBIRD is a game changer and will be very important for future human exploration and science missions." said Andreas Doulaveris, TBIRD's mission systems engineer at NASA's  Goddard Space Flight Center  in Greenbelt, Maryland.

Shenzhou-14 Crew To Begin New Era of China’s Space Station Program – ...

China launched a new three-person crew to its Tianhe space station core module this evening. The mission marks a new era in China’s space station program as the crew oversees the addition of the other two modules of Tiangong-3 and prepares for the first crew rotation in December.

China officially announced the launch date and time and crew members less than 24 hours in advance. Like Shenzhou-13, the crew is composed of two men — a veteran taikonaut and a rookie — and one woman, also a veteran of a prior flight.

Sony launches space laser communications business - SpaceNews

TAMPA, Fla. — Sony has formed a company to develop laser communications equipment for small satellites, drawing on optical disc technology it pioneered for CD players and other devices.

The Japanese conglomerate said June 2 it founded Sony Space Communications (SSC) in San Mateo, California, to help companies avoid running out of radio waves as the number of satellites in low Earth orbit (LEO) soars.

Microsoft blocks Polonium hackers from using OneDrive in attacks

Microsoft said it blocked a Lebanon-based hacking group it tracks as Polonium from using the OneDrive cloud storage platform for data exfiltration and command and control while targeting and compromising Israelian organizations.

The company also suspended more than 20 malicious OneDrive applications used in Polonium's attacks, notifying the targeted organizations and quarantining the threat actors' tools via security intelligence updates.

NASA picks new experiments for commercial delivery to moon in 2026 | Space

'Super Earth' exoplanet four times bigger than our planet is discovered | Daily Mail Online

A new 'super Earth' that is four times bigger than our own planet has been spotted orbiting a star just 36.5 light-years away.

The exoplanet , which has been named Ross 508b, was discovered in the so-called habitable zone of a faint red dwarf that it circles every 10.75 days.
