Horrifying: Robots may have just gained a creepy new skill

Most of us can tell the difference between a belly-busting laugh in reaction to a cat video and a weak chuckle following a coworker's corny joke. But can robots ?

In a recent study published in the journal Frontiers in Robotics and AI, researchers designed a new AI system to detect peoples' laughs, decide whether to giggle in response, and choose the type of laugh that's appropriate for the context.

Planet Nine: Space Hypothesis Might Be Real Scientists Say

A planet referred to as Planet Nine might possibly exist in the solar system’s outermost reaches. It would be the solar system’s first newly discovered planet to be recognized since 1846 if it is confirmed.

However, when more research showed that Pluto was too small to have an impact on Neptune and Uranus, the search continued.

A Planet-Sized Heatwave Has Been Found in Jupiter's Atmosphere : ScienceAlert

It was 130,000 kilometers (around 81,000 miles) across, and a scorching 700 degrees Celsius (1,292 degrees Fahrenheit), traveling at speeds up to 2,400 meters per second away from the Jovian north pole.

And this, scientists say, could resolve one of the more perplexing mysteries about our Solar System's biggest planet – why it's so much hotter than models predict.

Study: Analysis of asteroid reveals unexpected evidence of mini-ocean — and carbonation

Well, at least not these days. But in the earliest days of the Solar System's formation, Ryugu—the diamond-shaped target of the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA)'s Hayabusa2 mission — had a tiny ocean within it.

Before it was the asteroid it is today, high-precision isotope analysis shows it was part of a larger, older parent before being blasted apart in a collision. But even more surprising is that within that tiny ocean, some dry silicates from the original parent asteroid managed to survive unaltered.

Two "Super Mercury" Exoplanets Found in a Single System - Universe Today

There’s a star system out there with three super-Earth planets and two super-Mercuries. Super-Earths are fairly familiar types of exoplanets, but super-Mercuries are rare. Those are planets with the same composition as our own Mercury, but larger and denser.

A team of researchers at the Instituto de Astrofisica e Ciencias do Espaco in Portugal discovered these two dense inner planets. Their study is focused on small exoplanets and their compositions, and how position, temperature, and the properties of their stars affect them.

New theory predicts Earth-like, watery planets exist around red dwarfs

They have developed a new planet formation model and, thereby, have predicted the amounts of seawater that exoplanets orbiting M-type stars would have.

Since the first detection in 1995, more than 5,000 planets orbiting stars other than the sun (exoplanets) have been detected. The detection of such a large number of exoplanets has shown that planetary systems exist commonly in the universe.
