Ukraine: US sanctions Chinese firm helping Russia's Wagner Group - BBC News

The US has sanctioned a Chinese company for allegedly providing satellite imagery of Ukraine to support the mercenary Wagner Group's combat operations for Russia.

Changsha Tianyi Space Science and Technology Research Institute is among 16 entities slapped with curbs by the Treasury Department.

NASA's Webb Telescope Receives Top Space Foundation Award

"The James Webb Space Telescope team represents the best of our humanity and an enduring pursuit to better understand the cosmos. Every new image is a new discovery," said NASA Administrator Bill Nelson .

The award will be presented at the Space Foundation's yearly opening ceremony of the Space Symposium in Colorado on April 17 .

Surviving a year off planet would be challenging enough, but even that would be a technological marvel for us. With our current propulsion technologies, it would take thousands of years to reach even the nearest star, let alone a star specially chosen for its habitable world.

Sally Ride statue will be unveiled in Los Angeles on July 4 | Space

A statue of former NASA astronaut Sally Ride will be unveiled July 4 outside the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library & Museum, situated west of her hometown of Los Angeles, as part of a series of female-focused monuments designed by filmmaker Steven Barber.

"There's just so many great science female icons that we can build," said Barber, who also designed a bronze statue of Ride that was dedicated in June 2022 at the Cradle of Aviation Museum on Long Island, in the greater New York City area.

Egypt, AU sign agreement to establish the headquarters of African Space Agency - Egypt Independent

Egypt and the African Union on Tuesday signed an agreement to establish a permanent headquarters for the African Space Agency (AfSA).

The move was made during a reception event held by the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Mohamed Ashour, to a delegation from the African Union headed by the AU’s Commissioner for Education, Science, Technology and Innovation Mohamed Belhocine.

NASA's Geotail spacecraft ends 30-year study of magnetosphere | Space

After almost 31 years in space studying the protective magnetic bubble that surrounds Earth known as the magnetosphere, NASA's Geotail mission has come to an end. 

Geotail's second data recorder, which had been gathering data about the structure and dynamics of our planet's magnetosphere , failed on June 28, 2022. The spacecraft's first data recorder had failed 10 years previous to this in 2012.

40 years ago, NASA launched the space telescope that proved JWST could work

You can think of NASA's James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) observatory as offering the greatest view of all time.

Those images, that view, are all courtesy of JWST's beryllium mirrors and exquisitely tuned sensors and instruments, all focused on viewing the cosmos in infrared light. And it could have been very different.
