Yet another asteroid in the news! This one is a little less splashy than the recent disintegration of the one-meter-wide asteroid over France . But it’s this asteroid’s closest approach to Earth in more than 400 years.
And observers with telescopes can watch it. In fact, on recent nights, amateur astronomers using telescopes have already been able to spot this space rock. And astronomers using the Goldstone Antenna in California tried to obtain radar images of asteroid 2005 YY128 from February 11 to 13, 2023.
NASA warns of 5 asteroids set to approach Earth on Valentine's Day-February 14 | Tech News
It is Valentine's Day and although it's a day of celebration of love, 5 celestial objects heading towards Earth are adding to the excitement. NASA is one of the space agencies which keeps a constant eye on Near-Earth Asteroids (NEAs) for potential impact.
1. Asteroid 2023 CH2 – Asteroid 2023 CH2 is a 59 feet wide asteroid that is speeding towards Earth. It is moving at a fearsome speed of 36192 kilometers per hour and will make its closest approach to the planet at a distance of a terrifying 417,280 kilometers.
Blazing Asteroid Lights Up The Sky Just Hours After Being Spotted : ScienceAlert
In images taken at 20:18:07 UTC on February 12, the asteroid 2023 CX1, also known as Sar2667, was spotted by astronomer Krisztián Sárneczky of Konkoly Observatory's Piszkéstető Station in Hungary.
But then the telescope recorded the asteroid a second time, and the discovery was reported to the International Astronomical Union's Minor Planet Center .
Watch the asteroid 2023 CX1 turn into 'beautiful' fireball over Europe
An asteroid hit Earth hours after it was discovered Monday, turning into a dazzling fireball that was spotted throughout Europe.
Around 12:18 p.m. ET Sunday, astronomer Krisztián Sárneczky detected an asteroid – initially dubbed Sar2667 – at the Piszkéstető Observatory in Hungary, the European Space Agency said in a news release.
