Economic impact of UArizona space sciences rivals that of Super Bowl | University of Arizona News

Space may be the final frontier, but it is also the subject of some of the University of Arizona's most financially impactful research.

The report had several key findings. First, the total yearly economic output of the university's space sciences operations is estimated at roughly $560.5 million. In addition, space sciences activities generate roughly $21.1 million in state, county and municipal taxes every year.

The Hague Institute for Global Justice unveiled a compact on norms of behavior for commercial space operations last night in Washington, D.C. and presented it to the United Nations today.

Joining her as co-chair of the Off-World Approach is Kenneth Hodgkins, who retired from the State Department in 2020 after more than a dozen years as Director of the Office of Space and Advanced Technology and U.S. representative to the U.N. space committee or UNCOPUOS.

Curiosity's 360-Degree View of Marker Band Valley

NASA's Curiosity Mars rover used its Mastcam to capture this 360-degree panorama of "Marker Band Valley" on Dec. 16, 2022, the 3,684th Martian day, or sol, of the mission.

This mosaic is made up of 137 individual images that were stitched together after being sent back to Earth. The color has been adjusted to match lighting conditions as the human eye would perceive them on Earth.
