Amid labour shortages and problems of rural isolation, Japan is relaxing its traffic laws to allow autonomous delivery robots to take to the streets.
Labour shortages in its cities and new rules limiting overtime for truck drivers also make it difficult for businesses to keep up with delivery demands.
Green Country Students Compete With Their Robots At Bishop Kelley
Some Green Country students competed with their own hand-built robots at Bishop Kelley on Saturday.
The 28 teams got to show off their skills in the STEM fields, by designing, building and competing with a robot in the national First Tech Challenge.
"There's a 30-second autonomous period that they pre-program. And then they have a two minute 2 versus 2 robots," said Bishop Kelley Robotics mentor Mary Jo Othon.
Bradenton restaurant owner believes robots are the future
BRADENTON, Fla. — The owner of the Anna Maria Oyster Bar Landside in Bradenton who recently got his second robot to wheel out food believes automation is the future for the restaurant industry which continues to face labor shortages.
Horne said he got his first robot, named Pearl, in December 2021, from Bear Robotics and agreed to let the company beta test it at his restaurant to improve the technology. A new and improved robot named Pearl 2.0 arrived last month with updated features, according to Horne.
