Meet the SpaceX Crew-6 astronauts launching to space station on Feb. 26 | Space

The sixth operational SpaceX space station mission will make history, bringing the first United Arab Emirates long-duration astronaut to space.

Crew-6 will launch to the International Space Station  (ISS) on Feb. 26 or so, with four astronauts on board a Crew Dragon spacecraft atop a SpaceX Falcon 9  rocket.

Away Team Tech: The BASALT Research Program - Astrobiology

The articles associated with this Special Collection focus on the NASA BASALT (Biologic Analog Science Associated with Lava Terrains) Research Program, which aims at answering the question, "How do we support and enable scientific exploration during human Mars missions?"

To answer this the BASALT team conducted scientific field studies under simulated Mars mission conditions to both broaden our understanding of the habitability potential of basalt-rich terrains on Mars and examine the effects of science on current Mars mission concepts of operations.

Sun unleashes massive X2-class solar flare during geomagnetic storm watch (video) | Space

A massive solar flare erupted from the sun on Friday (Feb. 17) as the Earth was under a geomagnetic storm watch from flares earlier in the week. 

The new flare also unleashed a coronal mass ejection, a massive eruption of solar plasma that can travel 1 million mph, toward the Earth, according (opens in new tab) to Spaceweather.com, which tracks space weather. It should reach the Earth on Feb.

Instrument on NASA's Parker Solar Probe switches off unexpectedly | Space

One of the instruments on NASA's Parker Solar Probe powered down unexpectedly last weekend, but don't panic — the mission team expects it to come back online soon.

The sun -studying spacecraft switched off its Energetic Particle Instrument-Hi (EPI-Hi) on Feb. 12, while a software patch was being uploaded to it, NASA officials explained in a brief Parker Solar Probe update on Friday (Feb. 17).
