Distant Star Has Two Potentially Habitable Planets Orbiting It | Discover Magazine
NASA recently announced the discovery of a new, Earth-sized planet in the habitable zone of a nearby star called TOI-700. We are two of the astronomers who led the discovery of this planet, called TOI-700 e.
Habitable planets are those that are just the right distance from their star to have a surface temperature that could sustain liquid water.
Astronomers find planets strikingly similar to Jupiter and Neptune around Sun-like star
The Only Planets That Have No Moons - WorldAtlas
One major factor contributing to the fact that neither Mercury nor Venus has moons is likely the distance between these worlds and the sun. Since Mercury and Venus are the two innermost planets, they experience a higher gravitational pull from the sun than the other planets.
If any natural satellites did form around these two planets, chances are that the sun's gravity would have prevented them from entering stable orbits.
