Astronomers found 2 potentially habitable planets orbiting a distant star

In January, NASA revealed that astronomers had discovered yet another potentially habitable planet orbiting the star TOI-700.

Finding potentially habitable planets, let alone a pair of habitable planet candidates, isn't easy. Because TOI-700 is located roughly 100 light-years from Earth, the chance of humans visiting these planets is improbable.

Curious Kids: How are planets created?

Science Engagement Astronomer, South African Astronomical Observatory, South African Astronomical Observatory

There are many, many more planets way beyond our solar system and our galaxy, the Milky Way. Scientists like us, known as astronomers, have found over 5,000 planets around other stars. We estimate that there may be trillions across the Universe.

Water in space – a 'Goldilocks' star reveals previously hidden step in how water gets to planets ...

Astronomers typically refer to the journey water takes from its formation as individual molecules in space to its resting place on the surfaces of planets as "the water trail.

To test these theories, astronomers like me look at the ratio between normal water and a special kind of water called semi-heavy water. Water is normally made of two hydrogen atoms and one oxygen atom.
