A study co-authored by Southwest Research Institute Senior Research Scientist Dr. Jason Hofgartner explains the unusual radar signatures of icy satellites orbiting Jupiter and Saturn.

"Six different models have been published in an attempt to explain the radar signatures of the icy moons that orbit Jupiter and Saturn," said Hofgartner, first author of the study, which was published this month in Nature Astronomy.

Scientists uncover what accelerated an interstellar comet through our solar system

(CNN) -- In 2017, 'Oumuamua became the first observed interstellar object to zip through our solar system, and its appearance sparked questions scientists are still trying to answer.

The object, similar in shape to a cigar or a pancake, was the size of an asteroid and moved in a somewhat cometlike way but lacked a cometary tail.
