Space research first began at CU Boulder back in 1948, when an Air Force research laboratory contracted with the university's physics department to study the Sun by launching instruments mounted on surplus World War II rockets.

The eligibility criteria for USRA membership includes demonstrated significant contributions in space or aerospace research by faculty, and a substantial commitment to a course of studies and dissertation research leading to the doctorate in one or more related fields.

Dr. Makenzie Lystrup Is The New NASA Goddard Space Flight Center Director - SpaceRef
NASA Administrator Bill Nelson has named Dr. Makenzie Lystrup director of the agency's Goddard Space Flight Center in Maryland, effective immediately. She will make history as the first female center director at Goddard.
Lystrup succeeds Dave Mitchell, who has served as Goddard's acting center director since January 2023, and now resumes his duties as the agency's chief program management officer at NASA Headquarters in Washington.
