If we were an alien species viewing Earth from afar, how would we tell that it’s not only an inhabited world, but a world inhabited by a technologically advanced, intelligent species? From up close, those signatures are unmistakable.
The first thing you have to recognize is that if we want to see any of the planets that are out there around any star beyond our own Sun, we’re going to need to find a way to directly observe that planet despite its proximity to its parent star.
