New Insights From An Ancient Asteroid - SpaceRef

In June 2018, Japan’s Hayabusa2 spacecraft retrieved samples from asteroid Ryugu and successfully returned them to Earth.

The work was focused on spherical mineral grains, called chondrule-like objects and calcium-aluminium-rich inclusions (CAIs).

A key finding from the analysis by the Tohoku University group is that the grains in the Ryugu samples were likely transported in widening circles from the inner regions of the early solar system out to the much more distant region where the original asteroid Ryugu formed.

Did Russia Close Down Airspace Because of 'UFO' Seen in Video?

The war in Ukraine has spilled over into Russian territory in recent days , with what appeared to be numerous drone strikes deep inside the country's territory, including on targets in border towns of Yeysk and Belgorod, as well as in southern Russia and even near Moscow.

Asteroid 2016 HO3: China plans robotic spacecraft to collect asteroid samples

The Chinese government is going forward with a plan to send a robotic spacecraft to collect samples from an asteroid located close to Earth, claimed a report published by The China Daily on Friday.

The mission will be called Tianwen 2 and will launch a probe to collect samples from the 2016 HO3 asteroid. HO3 is the smallest and closest "quasi-satellite" to Earth.

Canada Has Approved Rocket Launches: Prepare for a Commercial Space Boom

The asteroid once thought to be one of Earth's biggest risks

EARTH ( WETM ) – It’ll show up a few more times before 2029, but when it does, the people of Earth won’t have anything to worry about.

The story of Apophis starts in 2004. The 1,100-foot rock was picked up by scientists in the summer, and it was nothing remarkable, according to Scientific American. But in a matter of months, calculations of its orbit determined it had a 1-in-37 (2.7%) chance of hitting Earth in April 2029.

China's Shenzhou 15 astronauts conduct 2nd spacewalk, 1st fire test | Space

Two of the three Shenzhou 15 spaceflyers — Fei Junlong and Zhang Lu — conducted a spacewalk outside Tiangong recently, officials with the China Manned Space Engineering Office (CMSEO) said in an update on Wednesday (opens in new tab) (March 1).

Fei and Zhang "successfully completed all the scheduled tasks and returned safely to the Wentian experimental cabin," CMSEO officials wrote (in Chinese; translation by Google), without specifying what those tasks were or when exactly the spacewalk took place.

Evidence found of a ninth planet (now Pluto has been downgraded)

Before 2006 our solar system boasted nine planets: Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto. Then the International Astronomical Union (IAU) laid out its three laws for what constitutes a full-size "planet".

It is this third criterion that saw Pluto demoted to "dwarf planet" status, joining its neighbours Eris (which is slightly larger than Pluto), Makemake and Haumea in the outlying Kuiper Belt, as well as Ceres in the Asteroid Belt (between Mars and Jupiter).
