ICUBE-Q: Pakistan leaps toward Moon exploration with China's support | Science News - News9live

New Delhi: China has just launched the Chang'e 6 mission , an ambitious attempt to return samples from the Apollo crater within the largest impact basin in the Solar System. The landing site is on the lunar far side. On board the mission are payloads from Europe , as well as a CubeSat from Pakistan. This lunar orbiter is known as ICUBE-Q and will observe the Moon. To operate the hardware on the ground, China is using its own Queqiao 2 Relay Satellite , that was launched earlier in the year.

Pakistan's ambitions of lunar exploration have been given wings by China. The counterpart of ISRO in Pakistan is The Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission, or SUPARCO. China has plans to set up a research outpost using a series of landers , in a close collaboration with Russia's Luna programme , eventually paving the way to an International Lunar Research Station , to rival America's Artemis Basecamp.
