The recent Transporter-15 Rideshare Mission, as reported by SpaceNews, marked a significant milestone with the launch of 140 payloads aboard a Falcon 9 rocket from Vandenberg Space Force Base in California. Liftoff occurred at 1:44 p. m. Eastern, and the deployment of payloads commenced approximately 55 minutes later, with the final spacecraft released nearly 2 hours and 45 minutes after liftoff.
This mission was initially scheduled for earlier in the month but faced postponements due to temporary restrictions on commercial launch timings imposed by the Federal Aviation Administration during the government shutdown. Further delays occurred, including a scrub during a launch attempt on November 26. The 140 payloads, including 13 to be deployed later by orbital transfer vehicles, represent the second-largest number carried on a SpaceX rideshare mission, following the Transporter-1 mission in January 2021, which launched 143 payloads.
The Transporter-15 mission showcased a diverse range of customers, with Planet operating the largest single satellite fleet, consisting of 36 Dove cubesats and two Pelican high-resolution imaging satellites.
