SpaceX quietly rolled out its most affordable Starlink plan to date, dubbed Residential 100Mbps, priced at $40 per month. This new offering significantly undercuts the company's existing Residential and Residential Lite plans, which cost $120 and $80 per month, respectively, in the US. The Residential 100Mbps plan boasts unlimited data and unrestricted upload speeds, making it an attractive option for small households with moderate internet needs.
According to SpaceX, this plan is best suited for 2-3 person households that engage in everyday internet activities such as web browsing, video calls, and HD streaming. However, it's essential to note that this plan is not designed for heavy users or large households with multiple simultaneous high-bandwidth activities, such as 4K streaming or large game downloads.
Despite this limitation, the Residential 100Mbps plan has the potential to draw in more users to Starlink, especially with the company's aggressive discounting strategy. Currently, the Residential 100Mbps plan is only available in select areas of the US, with limited visibility on the Starlink website. PCMAG reported that the plan was only visible in parts of Nebraska.
