Zoom Fixed Flaw Opening Meetings to Hackers | Threatpost

Zoom has patched a flaw that could have allowed attackers to guess a meeting ID and enter a meeting.

NEW ORLEANS – Enterprise video conferencing firm Zoom has issued a bevy of security fixes after researchers said the company’s platform used weak authentication that made it possible for adversaries to join active meetings.

Research unveiled the research Tuesday here at CPX 360, a security event hosted by Check Point Security. The report revealed that it’s possible to correctly predict valid meeting IDs, due to Zoom identifying meeting IDs as “valid” or “invalid” when they are input into the meeting URL.

Area 51 and aliens: The myth, meme, and the strange reality, explained - Vox

It's been 30 years since the public first heard about Area 51. Here's why UFO hunters are still obsessed.

Thousands of people are expected to travel to desert towns in Nevada this weekend, inspired by a viral call to " storm Area 51 " in hopes of overpowering the US military and uncovering whatever government secrets might be hiding there.

The desert base, which is entirely off-limits to civilians, has long been at the center of a conspiracy among alien fans and ufologists — people who hunt for UFOs. Somewhere amid Area 51's vast desert acreage, they believe, is a heavily guarded underground lab where the government keeps and studies captured alien aircraft — and possibly even aliens themselves.

Robotics to Take Centerstage in 2020: 5 Stocks in Focus

With developments happening at lightspeed, thanks to the growth in artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning, the robotics industry should see an upward trend this year. As such, the global industrial robotics market is expected to reach an encouraging value of around $24 billion by 2025.

* * *

Robotics is now being used more to perform complicated procedures than just repetitive tasks, from minimally invasive surgery to exploring oceans for untapped oil deposits and much more. Additionally, the rise in aging population has also boosted the space, with health monitoring and self-treatment, hyping demand especially among elders and for eldercare.

Bear Robotics, a company making robot waiters, just raised a $32 million round led by SoftBank

Back in August, we flagged a filing for you that we found interesting, one for a now 2.5-year-old, 40-person Redwood City, Calif.,-based startup called Bear Robotics that’s been developing robots to deliver food to restaurant customers. The filing listed a $35.8 million target; Bear Robotics founder and CEO John Ha now tells us the final close, being announced today, was $32 million in Series A funding.

Because we know you’re interested in much more than Bear Robotics’ funding picture, we asked Ha — a former Intel research scientist turned technical lead at Google who in recent years opened and closed his own restaurant — to share more about the company and its robot servers.

This ultrasonic gripper could let robots hold things without touching them – TechCrunch

It’s done with an array of tiny speakers that emit sound at very carefully controlled frequencies and volumes. These produce a sort of standing pressure wave that can hold an object up or, if the pressure is coming from multiple directions, hold it in place or move it around.

This kind of “acoustic levitation,” as it’s called, is not exactly new — we see it being used as a trick here and there, but so far there have been no obvious practical applications. Marcel Schuck and his team at ETH Zürich, however, show that a portable such device could easily find a place in processes where tiny objects must be very lightly held.

Why workers trust robots more than their managers | HRD America

A new report on AI adoption in the workplace suggests employees are now seeing robots in a more positive light – to the point of trusting machines more than they would their human managers.

The study, led by Oracle and Future Workplace, shows 82% of workers believe robots can do certain tasks more efficiently than their leaders. These include:

Much of this enthusiasm over the capability of robots to guide workers has to do with how advancements in AI and machine learning are “rapidly being infused into mainstream business operations,” the report suggests.

Review: 'Color Out of Space' is a manic, psychedelic journey | Arts & Entertainment |

Despite some minimal documentaries here and there, Stanley has not made a feature length film in more than 20 years. However, the idiosyncratic filmmaker returns after his extended break. His latest film "Color Out of Space," an adaptation of H.P. Lovecraft's classic short story of the same name, is a cosmic fever dream that excels in bringing out the best of its source material.

When a mysterious meteorite crashes down on a family's farm, the family find themselves seemingly infected by an extraterrestrial organism that mutates everything in its path, transforming their home into a nightmarish landscape. We witness the family's mental state as their literal surroundings deteriorate over time and they begin to fear everything and each other.

'The Walking Dead' Creator Reveals The Origin Of The Zombie Apocalypse

Robert Kirkman, the creator of the comics upon which the popular AMC zombie drama is based, ended his comic book series recently without ever revealing the origin of the zombifying infection.

* * *

When asked on Twitter what the cause of the apocalypse was, he replied: "Space spore." In other words, this whole time the zombie apocalypse was actually an alien invasion.

That could be the joke Robert Kirkman is making here, or he really could be serious that the infection was extraterrestrial. I mean, it makes sense doesn't it? Only something truly foreign to our planet could wreak such havoc given that even the most deadly plagues ultimately tapped out before decimating the entire human population of Earth. It would also explain why nobody can figure out a cure.

SARASOTA — America’s former Chief of Naval Operations stated on Thursday that the unidentified flying objects that appeared to have outperformed Navy fighter pilots on videos recorded in 2004 and 2015 remain a mystery.

Unidentified flying objects (UFOs) have captured the public’s attention over the decades. As exoplanet detection is on the rise, why not consider that star-hopping visitors from afar might be buzzing through our friendly skies by taking an interstellar off-ramp to Earth?

Mysterious lights seen over northeast El Paso were military flares, not UFOs - KVIA

EL PASO, Texas -- It's a bird, it's a plane... it's a UFO? No, it's just a U.S. Army training exercise organized out of Fort Bliss.

Military officials told ABC-7 on Tuesday that recent sightings of mysterious lights over the northeast El Paso skies at night had a very simple explanation - and one that doesn't involve extraterrestrials.

"The lights seen this past weekend are artillery flares," explained Gilbert Telles Jr., a public affairs specialist at Fort Bliss. "A unit had been training that early evening at the Doña Ana training ranges."

SpaceX's inflight abort test paves way to commercial human spaceflight | TheHill

It is not every day that a successful test of a rocket involves destroying the launch vehicle in midflight. SpaceX managed the feat during the inflight abort test it conducted Sunday morning. The test was an important milestone in the development of commercial human spaceflight.

The commercial spaceflight company launched a Falcon 9 rocket with a crewed Dragon on top. About 90 seconds into the flight, the Falcon 9's engines switched off. Detecting that an anomaly had taken place, the Crewed Dragon fired its Draco rocket engines, separating it from the Falcon 9. As the Falcon 9 broke apart in midflight, the crewed Dragon soared away in safety. The spacecraft eventually splashed down in the Atlantic Ocean using parachutes.

For the space industry as a whole, the Crew Dragon's success could commercialize low-Earth orbit and enable more firms to invest. This could open up space further to bold new ideas.
