As NASA plans a return trip to the moon, these 2 Connecticut companies will help astronauts get

As NASA ramps up for the first manned trip to the moon in more than 50 years, it has enlisted two Connecticut companies with roots in the state's aerospace industry to pitch in.

The space agency's " Tipping Point " solicitation awarded $2.6 million this fall to Skyre Inc. of East Hartford that will develop a system to make propellant from permanently frozen water at the moon's poles. And it awarded $4 million to Infinity Fuel Cell and Hydrogen Inc. of Windsor, which will collaborate with NASA's Johnson Space Center in Houston to develop a flexible power and energy product to reduce cost and improve reliability.

India Could Land on the Moon in 2020 with Chandrayaan 3 | Space

Just months after a landing anomaly , India is hard at work pursuing another try at touching down on the moon, according to a news report.

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is already designing Chandrayaan 3, which would only include a lander and a rover because India already has a working orbiter at the moon — Chandrayaan 2 .

Chandrayaan 2 attempted to deploy a lander called Vikram on Sept. 6, but that spacecraft fell silent during landing . India said that it saw Vikram on the surface after the landing, but instruments on NASA's Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter hadn't spotted it as of late October .

‘Moon Halos’ : explained | KXAN.com

On Saturday evening, KXAN viewer Nick Rober captured this image. If you look closely, there is a very faint ring around the moon.

The ring is referred to as a ‘ 22-degree halo ‘ and appears as a light circle around the sun or moon. Why the name? The circle has a radius of ~22°.

Thin, high clouds called ‘cirrus clouds’ are made up of millions of tiny ice crystals thousands of feet in the atmosphere. Light reflecting off the moon or shining from the sun is refracted , which then creates a visible ring surrounding the sun/moon.

Need To Review NASA's Plan To Drop Planetary Protection For Parts Of Mars - May Jeopardize

… where there is only a remote chance that contamination carried by a spacecraft could jeopardize future exploration”. In this case we define “remote chance” as “the absence of niches (places where terrestrial microorganisms could proliferate) and/or a very low likelihood of transfer to those places.

The results of this decision can impact on other countries too. The future discoveries of ESA (Europe), ROSCOSMOS (Russia), JAXA (Japan), ISRO (India), CNSA (China) are all potentially impacted if we contaminate Mars irreversibly with Earth microbes, as well as the future industries that may be based on discoveries from Mars
