Want a close encounter with a UFO?

At Coyote's Flying Saucer Retrievals and Repairs Service, no conspiracy theory is too outlandish to be entertained

* * *

When I ask Coyote why he opened a UFO scrap yard in the California desert just off Interstate 8, I'm ready for almost any answer except the one I get. He gives me a long stare and growls, "Sing the Cracker Jack song."

Coyote, who resembles a grizzled prospector straight out of a John Wayne film, makes it clear that he won't answer any questions until I sing all of the lyrics from the 1960s jingle about his favorite snack. Since the Cracker Jack jingle is before my time, he patiently coaches me on the words.

What is behind the decline in UFO sightings? | World news | The Guardian

Do these declines reveal that UFO interest is becoming a blip on the human cultural radar? Perhaps UFO and alien lore is seeming more like a reflection of human culture, tied to the space age, motivated by conquering new existential frontiers.

He adds: "It isn't so much that belief can exist without proof; it's that it must emphatically avoid proof to remain belief. We are in the process, paradoxically, of proving a negative hypothesis with UFOs: there never was any such thing."

UK's alien hotspots revealed as Bristol and Hull make top 10 list for UFO sightings

It found London was the city where most of the UK's "close encounters" have occurred since the 1990s, followed by Manchester and Birmingham.

The report used data collected from 1998 to 2019 by the National UFO Reporting Centre in the United States.

Founded in 1974, the group has noted reports of UFO sightings across the globe for more than four decades.

* * *

"In 2019 alone there have been a staggering 58,551 UFO sightings.
"Now sure, this could have been one of the 10billion galaxies that fill our night sky or one of the countless stars, and let's be honest it probably was – either that or a plane.
"But what happens if it's not? What happens if these sightings are our alien brothers and sisters? Even worse what happens if these aliens want to finally make contact?"
