Pentagon UFO disclosure: The case for taking these videos seriously - Vox

The Pentagon recently released three videos of UFOs recorded by the Navy — one taken in 2004 and the other two in 2015. The videos, which first leaked a couple of years ago, show … well, it's not exactly clear.

There are various objects — two of which look like aircraft — spinning through the sky and moving in ways that defy easy explanation. As the images bop across the screen, you can hear the pilots' excitement and confusion in real time as they track whatever it is they're seeing.

While you're here, how about this:

Why we must take UFO sightings by US Navy more seriously

T he official release of some previously leaked UFO videos taken by U.S. navy pilots has sparked renewed interest in the bigger questions. For sure those flying objects are unidentified, but how much attention should we earthlings devote to this issue? I am struck by the contrast between those who see this as an important question and those who think the whole thing will turn out to be an error or some kind of optical illusion.

Quite a lot has been going on:

U.S. Officially Releases Old UFO Footage

The U.S. Department of Defense has authorized the release of three unclassified Navy videos depicting aerial phenomena classified as “unidentified.”

One video was taken in November 2004 and the other two in January 2015. They have been circulating in the public domain after unauthorized releases in 2007 and 2017.

The U.S. Navy had previously acknowledged that the videos were indeed Navy videos. Now, after a thorough review, the Department of Defense has determined that the authorized release of these unclassified videos does not reveal any sensitive capabilities or systems and does not impinge on any subsequent investigations of military air space incursions by unidentified aerial phenomena (UAP).

Pentagon declassifies UFO footage, sparking memories of Hunter sightings | Newcastle Herald |

The grainy videos - one taken in November 2004 and the other two in January 2015 - were previously leaked to The New York Times .

The Pentagon said it released the videos "to clear up any misconceptions by the public on whether or not the footage that has been circulating was real, or whether or not there is more to the videos".

We had to laugh at the Pentagon's media release on the matter. It was titled, "Statement by the Department of Defense on the Release of Historical Navy Videos".

Japan to draw up UFO encounter procedures | NHK WORLD-JAPAN News

Japan's Defense Ministry plans to draw up procedures in the event Self-Defense Force pilots encounter unidentified flying objects, or UFOs.

The US Defense Department on Monday released videos of what it claims to be UFOs racing through the sky.

Defense Minister Kono Taro told reporters on Tuesday he does not believe much in UFOs, but he would like to know why the Pentagon released the videos and its analyses of them.

Kono added there have been no reports of Self-Defense Force pilots encountering UFOs, but his ministry will be prepared in case they do.
