Planets coalesce from massive disks of gas and dust that surround newborn stars. But detecting these embryonic worlds is difficult because both the star and the disk shine far brighter than any tiny planet.
To find out how much material is available for planet formation, researchers have used the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA) in Chile to weigh the disks around young stars between 1 million and 3 million years old. Past studies found that some lacked the mass to form even a single Jupiter-size world.

Black environmentalists are organizing to save the planet from injustice | Grist
Shepard is part of the National Black Environmental Justice Network (NBEJN) , a national coalition of black environmental justice groups and grassroots activists founded in 1991. Although the network took a hiatus in 2006 after executive director Damu Smith passed away , the network just announced that it's making a comeback against the backdrop of the COVID-19 pandemic and renewed calls to fight racial injustice.

Planet Announces 50 cm SkySat Imagery, Tasking Dashboard and Up to 12x Revisit
Over the past year, Planet has seen increased demand for its SkySat imagery to fulfill customers' needs for timely, accurate and frequent information across the decision cycle. The COVID-19 pandemic has intensified this trend, as traditional surveying and inspection methods are not currently possible.
To meet the present moment, and demonstrate our commitment to rapidly deliver more value to customers every year, Planet is excited to unveil three new releases as part of our overall tasking offerings. Combined, these releases not only enhance the core imagery for analysis, but also reduce friction to acquire that data.
Astronomers Confirm Two Planets in Proxima Centauri System | Astronomy | Sci-News.com
Astronomers have finally confirmed the existence of two exoplanets — Proxima b and c — orbiting Proxima Centauri, the Sun's closest stellar neighbor and one of the best-studied low-mass stars.
This artist's impression shows Proxima b orbiting Proxima Centauri, which at only 4.23 light-years is the closest star to our Solar System. The double star Alpha Centauri AB also appears in the image between the exoplanet and Proxima itself. Image credit: M. Kornmesser / ESO.
Mars: Green glow detected on the Red Planet - BBC News
A similar glow is sometimes seen by astronauts on the space station when they look to the Earth's limb.

The phenomenon has long been predicted to occur on other planets, but the Trace Gas Orbiter (TGO) - a joint European-Russian satellite at Mars - is the first to make the observation beyond Earth.
"You'd never plan a mission to go look for this kind of thing. Today, we have to be very clear about the science we're going to do before we get to Mars. But having got there, we thought, 'well, let's have a look'. And it worked."
