Photographers around the world captured stunning images of the recent Full Strawberry Moon eclipse, showing the subtle darkening as the moon barely grazed the shadow of the Earth.
The penumbral eclipse took place Friday (June 5) out of the range of North American view, but was visible for more than three hours over central and east Africa, Eastern Europe, western and central Asia, and parts of Indonesia and Australia. (If the moon passes more fully into the Earth's shadow, it experiences either a partial or total lunar eclipse , depending on how much of the moon is darkened.)

This is caused by the moon’s gravity tugging on the planet, which creates a temporary bulge in the planet. That energy pushes the moon further away.

NASA's Mars Odyssey spacecraft , which has been orbiting the Red Planet since 2001, used its infrared camera to measure temperature variations on the 16-mile-wide (25 kilometers) Phobos at three different stages of illumination.

The third new image, taken on March 27 when Phobos was coming out of Mars' shadow, observed temperatures between those two extremes.

But first, the Israeli project – dubbed "Trident" after the Roman sea god Neptune's three-pronged spear – must be chosen by NASA to head to space.
Trident, sponsored by the Weizmann Institute of Science and the Israel Space Agency, is one of four projects chosen out of 22 proposals. Each project will now receive $3 million. However, only two will make the final cut for launch in 2026. The craft is expected to reach Neptune in 2038.
Triton orbits in the opposite direction to all the other moons of Neptune, leading some researchers to suggest that that the moon may have originated outside our solar system and was trapped long ago by Neptune's gravitational field.

The Next Full Moon is the Strawberry Moon, Mead Moon, Honey Moon, Vat Purnima, Poson Poya, and the LRO Moon.
The next full Moon will be on Friday afternoon, June 5, appearing opposite the Sun (in Earth-based longitude) at 3:12 PM EDT. The Moon will appear full for about 3 days around this time, from early Thursday morning into early Sunday morning.
The Moon will be close enough to opposite the Sun that it will pass through part of the partial shadow of the Earth, called a partial penumbral eclipse of the Moon. During this eclipse the Moon will not be in the sky for most of the Americas. If we could see the Moon, the slight dimming during this eclipse will not be noticeable without instrumentation. For spacecraft at the Moon such as the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO), the reduction in solar power is noticeable.

On the moon, time and again boulders and blocks of rock travel downslope, leaving behind impressive tracks, a phenomenon that has been observed since the first unmanned flights to the moon in the 1960s. During the Apollo missions, astronauts examined a few such tracks on site and returned displaced rock block samples to Earth. However, until a few years ago, it remained difficult to gain an overview of how widespread such rock movements are and where exactly they occur.
Researchers at the Max Planck Institute for Solar System Research (MPS) in Germany and the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) Zurich have analyzed an archive of more than two million images of the lunar surface and present the first global map of rockfalls on the moon in today's edition of Nature Communications .
SpaceX Starship: Elon Musk details tweaks to support moon base missions
On Tuesday, SpaceX CEO Elon Musk explained how the Starship would need to undergo some adaptations to land on the moon. This would stand in contrast to other Starships, which are designed to support the sort of launches currently undertaken by the Falcon 9 and Falcon Heavy – think satellite launches and sending astronauts to the space station.
