Black hole's heart still beating

The research, by the National Astronomical Observatories, Chinese Academy of Sciences, China, and Durham University, UK, appears in the journal Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society .

The black hole's heartbeat was first detected in 2007 at the centre of a galaxy called RE J1034+396 which is approximately 600 million light years from Earth.

The signal from this galactic giant repeated every hour and this behaviour was seen in several snapshots taken before satellite observations were blocked by our Sun in 2011.

What Is Hawking Radiation?

Hawking radiation describes hypothetical particles formed by a black hole's boundary. This radiation implies black holes have temperatures that are inversely proportional to their mass.

* * *

Although it has never been directly observed , Hawking radiation is a prediction supported by combined models of general relativity and quantum mechanics . It is named after the eminent physicist Stephen Hawking, who, in 1974, published a paper titled Black hole explosions? arguing for their existence.

Caught in the act, a stellar mass black hole hurls jets into space at nearly light speed –

A sequence of dramatic images from NASA’s Chandra X-ray Observatory shows material being shot away from a stellar mass black hole at nearly the speed of light. The black hole, know as MAXI J1820+070 and located some 10,000 light years from Earth, is about eight times more massive than the Sun. It is in the process of stripping material away from a companion star with just half the Sun’s mass.

Furlough exclusion leaves new mothers facing income blackhole

Thousands of new mothers who cannot find childcare risk losing their job or facing a sudden drop in income because of rules that exclude them from being furloughed.

Women are not eligible for the Government's job retention scheme while on maternity leave. It closes to new applicants today, meaning that mothers due to return to work from today will not be able to apply.

This may force women to take unpaid or annual leave in order to look after their child, as many childcare providers have had to reduce their places to meet social distancing requirements.

Nature's cosmic hard drive? Black holes could store information like holograms | Ars Technica

Black holes as described by general relativity are simple objects. All you need to describe them mathematically is their mass and their spin, plus their electric charge. So there would be no noticeable change if you threw something into a black hole—nothing that would provide a clue as to what that object might have been. That information is lost. Further Reading Stephen Hawking's final paper published, tackles famous paradox

But problems arise when quantum gravity enters the picture because the rules of quantum mechanics hold that information can never be destroyed. And in quantum mechanics, black holes are incredibly complex objects and thus should contain a great deal of information. As we reported previously , Jacob Bekenstein realized in 1974 that black holes also have a temperature.

Experiencing 500 years of cosmic evolution around Milky Way's black hole - Tech Explorist

NASA scientists have created a new visualization called ‘Galactic Center VR’ that lets you experience 500 years of cosmic evolution around the supermassive black hole at the center of the Milky Way.

Scientists created this visualization by combining data from telescopes with supercomputer simulations and virtual reality (VR). It is based on data from NASA’s Chandra X-ray Observatory and other telescopes.

This new installment features their NASA supercomputer simulations of material streaming toward the Milky Way’s four-million-solar-mass black hole known as Sagittarius A* (Sgr A*). The visualization has been loaded into a VR environment as a novel method of exploring these simulations and is available for free at both the Steam and Viveport VR stores.

Television Review: Netflix's "Space Force" - Sucked into a Black Hole - The Arts

Maybe Space Force will figure out what kind of comedy it is and launch into a rejuvenated second season turn. Though that assumes it will get a second season.

Thanks to streaming services, NBC's The Office has thrived and is now hailed as one of the best sitcoms ever made. Ironically, its first season wasn't that well received — Americans did not know how to handle the abrasive Michael Scott (Steve Carrell) or the mockumentary format (which is now common among many TV shows, including ABC's juggernaut Modern Family ).

On The Edge Of The Black Hole: What Brands Are Doing To Avoid A CX Disaster 06/03/2020

Amazon receives millions of pieces of feedback -- many of them negative. How does a firm working at that scale show what it is doing to neutralize the pain points?

In attempting close the feedback loop, Amazon personalized messages through cautious tagging. Then it used such metrics as the Net Promoter Score (NPS) to assess customer sentiment.

“If you do not have a way to close the feedback loop with a customer then you need to rethink how you are collecting feedback in that channel so that you can,” Cramer says, the study continues.
