Hackers Compromise Russian Foreign Ministry Twitter Account, Ask $600,000 For ‘Stolen’ Database

It would appear that hackers managed to compromise an official Russian Foreign Ministry Twitter account on July 2, and advertised a stolen database for 66 BTC.

I have reached out to both the Russian Government press department and Twitter for further information, but currently, there is no confirmation of how the account ended up being compromised.

As this story is still breaking and little other information is known, I will leave it at that for now and update this article should any other details emerge.

Call of Duty Warzone: Redditor Makes Alarming Hacker Issue - EssentiallySports

What they found was that the game is literally crawling with cheaters and hackers. According to the data they collected, almost every squad had at least one player using some hack or the other. And it was not just for the high-end lobbies or the lower end ones. Also, by the end of circle four, 80% of the remaining squads have a hacker in almost every match.

As for the extent of advantage these cheats grant the player, here is a list (excluding the obvious ones like aimbots and wallhacks):

Cyber attacks are on the rise, but you can protect yourself from hackers.

As the world adjusts to the work-from-home culture, companies and businesses are facing a new challenge in the form of cyber attacks and ransomware. There has been a dramatic increase, in fact, in the number of cyber attacks over the past few months, affecting both small and large businesses and individuals. Be it payments and shopping or sharing files and accessing VPN, the pandemic has opened up new avenues for scammers and fraudsters to hoodwink individuals and businesses.

How hackers extorted $1.14m from University of California, San Francisco - BBC News

A leading medical-research institution working on a cure for Covid-19 has admitted it paid hackers a $1.14m (£910,000) ransom after a covert negotiation witnessed by BBC News.

* * *

Cyber-security experts say these sorts of negotiations are now happening all over the world - sometimes for even larger sums - against the advice of law-enforcement agencies, including the FBI, Europol and the UK's National Cyber Security Centre.

But there is also a countdown timer ticking down to a time when the hackers either double the price of their ransom, or delete the data they have scrambled with malware.

In a report published today, cyber-security firm Lookout said it found evidence connecting Android malware that was used to spy on minorities in China to a large government defense contractor from the city of Xi'an.

"Activity of these surveillance campaigns has been observed as far back as 2013," Lookout researchers said.

The company attributed this secret surveillance to a hacking group they believe operates on behalf of the Chinese government.

Anonymous Hackers Target TikTok: 'Delete This Chinese Spyware Now'

Those affiliated with Anonymous take exception to copycat accounts, which is complicated by the lack of any central function. In the aftermath of the Minneapolis Police story, someone affiliated with the group took exception to a Twitter account that was monetising the brand, telling me: "We do not appreciate false flag impersonations. There will be consequences."

So, why does this matter? Well, it's one thing for the U.S. government or even the Indian government to warn hundreds of millions of users about the dangers of TikTok, but various celebrities and influencers have also been swayed by the latest claims and have publicly expressed their concerns. Anonymous is a viral movement that is targeting some of the same user base that has driven TikTok's growth. It is campaigning against TikTok, and that campaign will drive its own viral message.

US Navy releases reports detailing encounters with UFOs - Business Insider

Eight incident reports released this week by the US Navy have revealed new details about a series of encounters between Navy pilots and unidentified flying objects (UFOs) off the US east coast.

Each of the eight incidents occurred in a patch of airspace off the coasts of Virginia and North Carolina, with all but one occurring between 2013 and 2014. The reports refer to the UFOs as "unidentified aerial devices."

In one March 26, 2014 report, a pilot described seeing a "metallic object," which was "small in size, approximately the size of a suitcase, and silver in color."

UFO sightings in Oregon and Washington | kgw.com

PORTLAND, Ore. — The Pentagon on Monday officially released three Navy videos of "unidentified" flying objects.

That revelation led us to think about the Pacific Northwest's unique history when it comes to UFOs, which includes some of the most famous reported sightings in United States history.

In 1947, private pilot Kenneth Arnold reported seeing nine " saucer-like aircraft flying in formation " between Mount Rainier and Mount Adams in Washington. Arnold estimated the objects were traveling about 1,200 miles per hour.

Why we must take UFO sightings by US Navy more seriously

T he official release of some previously leaked UFO videos taken by U.S. navy pilots has sparked renewed interest in the bigger questions. For sure those flying objects are unidentified, but how much attention should we earthlings devote to this issue? I am struck by the contrast between those who see this as an important question and those who think the whole thing will turn out to be an error or some kind of optical illusion.

A New Approach to Lunar Robots | SIGNAL Magazine

The current development of particular robots for NASA represents a methodical shift in how some Lunar or Martian vehicles are designed and how the related components or systems are included to support vehicle operation.

The more affordable yet dynamic approach of constructing the so-called MoonRanger is a shift from past rovers that were behemoth in size, protected from radiation and very slow, says William "Red" Whittaker , director of Carnegie Mellon University's (CMU's) Field Robotics Center , who is leading the technical development and construction of the MoonRanger. The rover will have fully autonomous operations and will provide high-fidelity 3D maps of the ice fields on the moon's south pole.

Believable Extraterrestrials - Scientific American Blog Network

On the 26th of April 1920, in a bit of canny PR, the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History in Washington, D. C. hosted a debate between the astronomers Harlow Shapley and Heber Curtis. The topic was the question of whether or not the 'spiral nebulae' were actually distant galaxies (implying a universe far more expansive than previously imagined) or simply a part of our own Milky Way (implying that this galactic realm was, in effect, the universe).

Regardless of the immediate value of this slightly contrived discussion, it did help push along the publication of works by Shapley and Curtis and in some ways become a model for bringing the nature of the scientific method (and argument) more into the public eye. In fact, back in 1995 the format was resurrected , again at the Smithsonian, for the first of a new generation of public debates. That one tackled the then-unknown nature of gamma-ray bursts.

How Many Extraterrestrial Civilizations Can Communicate In Our Galaxy Right Now?

The Copernican principle is the idea that Earth does not sit at the center of universe or is otherwise special in any way. When Nicolaus Copernicus first stated it in the 16th century, it led to an entirely new way to think about our planet.

Since then, scientists have applied the principle more broadly to suggest that humans have no special privileged view of the universe. We are just ordinary observers sitting on an ordinary planet in an ordinary part of an ordinary galaxy.

Scientists theorize that space aliens may already be here, but we don't recognize them -

Stargazing scientists have recently begun to focus on the prospect of encountering intelligent extraterrestrials, and the more they think about it the more they realize the first meeting probably won’t be with little green men in flying saucers.

What aliens might look like is a growing question among astrobiologists, who are increasingly conjuring up creatures more Lilliputian than mega-brained or reptilian.

“In all the mathematical models, a species that started early in the history of the galaxy and had the will and resources to diffuse could by now have filled many parts of the galaxy with its artifacts or biological spores,” Fraknoi said.

Navy videos spark renewed interest in UFOs from enthusiasts and Congress - ABC News

This year's World UFO Day comes at a time of heightened interest in the decades-long search to solve the mystery of Unidentified Flying Objects (UFOs) thanks to the Navy's recent declassification of videos that show what it called "unexplained aerial phenomena," but it's not just UFO enthusiasts who are excited.

The Navy declassified three previously leaked top-secret U.S. Navy videos in late April in an effort "to clear up any misconceptions by the public on whether or not the footage that had been circulating was real or whether or not there is more to the videos," said Susan Gough, a Pentagon spokesperson.
