Flea-Sized Robots Walk a Coin-Edge-Sized Path - IEEE Spectrum

Laser heating (and ambient cooling) of joints made from shape memory alloy allows this flea-sized 'bot to flex its legs and ambulate across a surface.

Microrobotics engineers often turn to nature to inspire their builds. A group of researchers at Northwestern University have picked the peekytoe crab to build a remote-controlled microbot that is tiny enough to walk comfortably on the edge of a coin.

Smash four different robots into other robots in whip-fast roguelite Morbid Metal | Rock Paper ...

The trailer for Morbid Metal from tonight's Future Games Show had a lot of metal (the music genre) and metal (the stuff you make blades out of).

Each of the characters you can turn into has their own moveset and special skill to deal out swift metal justice.

My confession about this is that I think the action looks cool, but kind of weightless. I love the concept, though, and there's obviously a story behind what actually happened to humans. Unless there isn't, and the game just goes "Dunno meht, robots innum?

Puerto Ricans are powering their own rooftop solar boom | Grist

The community services on offer here at the Centro de Apoyo Mutuo, or Mutual Support Center, are made possible by the 24 solar panels mounted on the rooftop.

Nearly five years ago, after Hurricane Maria tore a path of devastation across the United States territory and all but destroyed Puerto Rico's electricity system, residents in Caguas reclaimed what had for decades been an abandoned Social Security office.

Here's what I got for going solar: a rate hike from FPL | Opinion

Last month, my net kilowatt usage was negative; I sent power to FPL's grid. This was similar to what happened the month before. My electric bill, in one month, has increased from $10.76 to $29.90.

A couple of years ago, I put a solar system on my roof to control my electric bills, so that I could hopefully afford to age in my house. There are many months each year that I produce more electricity than I use, and a few months where I use more than I produce.

How Many Earth-Like Planets Are There In The Milky Way? - WorldAtlas

How Many Earth-Like Planets Are There In The Milky Way? - WorldAtlas

There are currently two methods used for finding planets around other stars: the radial velocity method and the transit method. The first method relies on observing the gravitational influence between a star and a planet.

It is important to define what is meant by Earth-like. An Earth-like planet is not necessarily known to be habitable. Rather, it is simply a planet that has a size, mass, and composition similar to our home planet.

Jupiter is up to 9% Rock and Metal, Which Means it Ate a lot of Planets in its Youth - Universe ...

Jupiter is composed almost entirely of hydrogen and helium. The amounts of each closely conform to the theoretical quantities in the primordial solar nebula. But it also contains other heavier elements, which astronomers call metals.

According to a new study, Jupiter’s metal content and distribution mean that the planet ate a lot of rocky planetesimals in its youth.

RIT professor earns NASA grant to study baby stars and newborn planets closest to Earth

Kastner and his team will study a group of about 150 stars that are only about 5 million years old, roughly one-thousandth of our own sun's age, still babies in stellar terms.

"These stars are excellent places to look if you want to see a newborn planet," said Kastner.

The study will use data from four missions that will give them a view of the stars across a wide stretch of the electromagnetic spectrum.
