Perseverance recently snapped some nice photos of layered rocks on the floor of Mars' Jezero Crater, and mission team members shared two of them Thursday (Nov. 4) via the rover's official Twitter account.

"Get a load of these layers! I’m getting out my abrading tool to take a look inside. Layered rocks like this often form in water, and can hold clues about what their environment used to be like.

Why Do Humans Perceive Time The Way We Do? | Discover Magazine

As human beings, we can't really think of ourselves without time . We organise our days around it's passing. We define ourselves through the events that have been encoded into our memories.

This is the phenomenology of time, or what neuroscientists call time consciousness. These aspects, or layers, of our experience of time have played an important role in informing our intuitions about the nature of physical time.

Facebook Papers: Here Is Facebook's Internal Glossary of Terms

There are other terms in here, too, that don't appear in the glossary but do appear frequently in some of the other documents provided for us. Gizmodo was able to define with the help of a former Facebook employee who spoke to us on the condition that they not be named.

This refers to a complex mathematical model that Facebook's researchers came up with internally in order to find "clusters of users" that might be operating in an inauthentic way—like users that might be commenting a bit too frequently on each other's posts.

Beaver Moon: You need to watch the longest lunar eclipse of the century

November's Frosty Moon, or the Beaver Moon, rises along with the last lunar eclipse of the year. Although it's not a total lunar eclipse, it's still damn close as nearly 97 percent of the Moon will be covered by Earth's shadow.

The Full Moon will rise on November 19 at 5 p.m. Eastern and reaches peak illumination at 3:58 a.m. Eastern. Peak illumination is when the Full Moon shines at its brightest when the whole visible lunar face is illuminated by the light from the Sun.

Why did birds survive the asteroid impact that wiped out the dinosaurs?

A new study tried to demystify what helped birds to survive when all other dinosaurs failed.

The fossil record hasn’t been kind to bird bones, which are more often than not too delicate and fragile to endure over millions of years.

After a long reign spanning more than 140 million years, the age of the dinosaurs came to an abrupt end. Only puny birds remained, which rapidly expanded and filled vacant ecological roles. Some 150 million years ago, the oldest birds looked like feathered dinosaurs and had sharp teeth.
