Planets Are Mysteriously Shrinking, And We May Finally Know Why : ScienceAlert

Planets Are Mysteriously Shrinking, And We May Finally Know Why : ScienceAlert

Core-powered mass loss is not a trendy new workout plan. It's when a planet's core emits radiation that pushes its atmosphere from underneath, leading to it separating from the planet over time, per the release.

The other hypothesis, called photoevaporation, says that a planet's atmosphere is dissipated by the radiation of its host star.

OTD In Space - November 19: First Lift-Off From An Asteroid

On November 19, 2005, the Japanese Hayabusa (HI-uh-BOOS-uh) spacecraft made the first liftoff from an asteroid. Hayabusa was supposed to return asteroid samples to Earth. Asteroids are space rocks that were formed during the early solar system.

Niall made the "horrendous decision" to eliminate an early favorite, just moments after he'd praised her ability "to sell a song unlike anyone I've ever seen."

Unlocking the Relationship Between Spectra and Stellar Activity: A Step Forward

Recent advancements in the radial velocity (RV) method for detecting exoplanets have brought scientists closer to the threshold required to identify Earth-mass and potentially habitable planets around Sun-like stars.

To address this issue, a team of researchers utilized a partially automated method to analyze spectral lines in observations of the young, active star ϵ Eridani from the high-precision NEID spectrograph.

Tour the inner solar system | Astronomy.com

Approximately 4.5 billion years ago, a cold cloud of gas and dust buried deep in one of the Milky Way galaxy's spiral arms started to collapse. From there, gravity worked its magic.

As gravity continued to compress the solar nebula, the central region that would become the Sun drew in the vast majority of material.

How organic molecules on comets survive hitting planets | Interviews

Richard - The upper limit for these molecules to survive will change molecule by molecule. One potentially important molecule we thought about in this work is hydrogen cyanide because this is a relatively simple molecule and has a strong bond between the carbon and nitrogen atoms.

Will - So 15 kilometres a second is roughly speaking about 54,000 kilometres an hour. If we've got comets going about a hundred thousand kilometres an hour or even more, that seems to be quite a lot of them that are going to burn up their organic compounds on impact.

Thousands of new honeypots deployed across Israel to catch hackers | TechCrunch

Shortly after the attack, the number of internet-connected honeypots in Israel — manufactured networks designed to lure hackers in — have risen dramatically, according to cybersecurity experts who monitor the internet.

Cybersecurity companies and governments routinely use honeypots to catch hackers and observe their attacks on a decoy network or system that is under their control. In other words, these networks and systems are designed to be hacked to catch hackers or observe their techniques.
