SpaceX is gearing up to send its next crew of astronauts to the International Space Station, perhaps as early as Saturday night, in a flight that comes as the station continues to leak air and has been doing so recently at an increased rate.

In a briefing earlier this week, Joel Montalbano, NASA's International Space Station program manager, said that the leak recently doubled from one to two pounds per day. The leak is located in the Russian segment of the station and has been isolated by closing a hatch to the area, sealing it off from the rest of ...

Space Traffic Management Technologies

A Safer Future for Space Exploration

As the world continues to advance in space exploration, the need for effective space traffic management technologies has become increasingly important. With more and more spacecraft entering the cosmos, the risk of collisions and other accidents is on the rise.

However, recent advancements in technology are helping to mitigate these risks and make space exploration safer than ever before.

One of the most significant advancements in space traffic management technologies is the development of autonomous spacecraft. These spacecraft are equipped with advanced sensors and AI algorithms that enable them to navigate and communicate with other spacecraft without human intervention.

This reduces the risk of human error and increases the overall safety of space exploration.

Another important technology is the use of standardized communication protocols. By establishing a universal language for space communication, spacecraft can easily communicate with each other and avoid misunderstandings that could lead to accidents.

This standardization also makes it easier for spacecraft to share information and coordinate their movements, further reducing the risk of collisions.

The Latest Space Travel Company Has A Luxury Capsule To Fly Passengers In 2025

Image
Space Perspective, a new space travel company, is set to offer luxury capsule flights to space in 2025. Passengers will arrive at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida, undergo a safety briefing, and walkthrough the facilities before preparing for a six-hour space flight. Unlike Virgin Galactic's space flight, which lasts around 90 minutes to two hours, and Blue Origin's rocket-propelled experience, which is far shorter at around 11 minutes, Space Perspective's capsule goes up at nighttime, allowing passengers to experience the blackness of space before the sun rises and the Earth's curvature and atmosphere become visible.

The total price for a Space Perspective flight is $125,000 per passenger, which is significantly more cost-effective than tickets for a seat on Virgin Galactic ($450,000) or Blue Origin ($300,000 to $400,000).

One of the key differences between Space Perspective and its competitors is the presence of a fully stocked bar at the edge of space.
Space Perspective passengers arrive at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida, have a safety briefing and a walkthrough of the facilities, and then prepare for a six-hour space flight. The capsule goes up at nighttime, allowing passengers to experience the blackness of space, before the sun rises allowing those on board to witness the curvature of the Earth and the thin blue line of the atmosphere. Virgin Galactic's space flight lasts around 90 minutes to two hours, whereas Blue Origin's rocket-propelled experience is far shorter – around 11 minutes.

Asteroid Struck By NASA Spacecraft Might Have Healed Itself

Scientific Breakthrough or Cosmic Coincidence?

NASA's OSIRIS-REx spacecraft has been making headlines recently after it encountered an asteroid and returned samples to Earth. However, a new discovery has raised eyebrows among scientists - the asteroid that was struck by the spacecraft might have healed itself.

According to NASA, the OSIRIS-REx spacecraft encountered the asteroid Bennu in 2018 and collected samples from its surface. The spacecraft then returned to Earth in 2020, providing scientists with a wealth of data and samples from the asteroid. However, when the spacecraft encountered Bennu again in 2022, it found that the asteroid had healed the impact crater caused by the spacecraft's touchdown.

Scientists are still trying to understand how this could have happened.

FAA Closes Investigation Into Explosive 2nd Flight Of SpaceX's Starship Megarocket - Space.Com

com. The FAA had launched an investigation into the incident, which occurred in September 2020, after the rocket experienced a sudden and unexplained explosion during its second test flight.

According to the FAA, the investigation found that the cause of the explosion was likely due to a combination of factors, including a faulty fuel line and a failure of the rocket's oxygen system.

The agency also noted that SpaceX had taken steps to address these issues and improve the safety of the rocket.

Some key takeaways from the investigation include:

* The FAA found that the failure of the oxygen system was likely caused by a leak in the fuel line, which allowed oxygen to escape from the rocket.

* SpaceX had not properly tested the rocket's fuel system before the second flight, which may have contributed to the accident.

* The company had made significant improvements to the rocket's design and safety protocols in response to the incident.

A NASA Mission That Collided With An Asteroid Didn't Just Leave A Dent. It Reshaped The Space Rock

Title: NASA Mission Leaves Lasting Impact on Asteroid, Reshapes Space Rock NASA's recent mission to collide with an asteroid has revealed a groundbreaking discovery: the impact did not just leave a dent on the space rock. Instead, it reshaped the asteroid, changing its shape and composition forever.

The NASA mission, known as the Double Asteroid Redirection Test (DART), was designed to test the agency's ability to deflect asteroids that could potentially collide with Earth.

On September 26, the DART spacecraft collided with the asteroid Dimorphos, a small, rocky ### orbiting a larger asteroid called Didymos.

The impact of the DART spacecraft created a crater on Dimorphos, but it also caused a more significant change: the asteroid's shape. Before the collision, Dimorphos was roughly spherical in shape.

After the impact, scientists observed that the asteroid had become more elongated, with its longer axis pointing towards the direction of the impact.

Astronomers Discover New Moons Orbiting Uranus And Neptune

Image
Astronomers have discovered three new moons orbiting Uranus and Neptune, bringing the total number of moons known to surround these ice giant planets to 28 and 14, respectively. The newly discovered moons were found using ground-based telescopes, and their discovery required special image processing techniques to reveal their faint presence.

The Uranus moons are named after characters from Shakespeare's plays, while the Neptune moons have yet to be officially named. The smallest of the Uranus moons, S/2023 U1, is only five miles wide and takes 680 days to orbit the planet. The Neptune moons were first observed in September 2021 and were confirmed using the Subaru telescope.

Detecting the fainter of the two Neptune moons required special observing conditions and the use of multiple exposures to bring out its presence.
"The three newly discovered moons are the faintest ever found around these two ice giant planets using ground-based telescopes," Scott S. Sheppard, an astronomer with the Carnegie Institution for Science who collaborated on the moons' discovery, said in a statement . "It took special image processing to reveal such faint objects."
