The Three Top Ways That Cyber-Hackers Will Criminally Make Money Off Of Self-Driving Cars

We are all somewhat numbed by the continual announcements about cyber-hackers that have broken into an online database and stolen our personal information, oftentimes doing so via attacking credit reporting agency databases, retailer databases, insurance company databases, financial and banking systems, and the like.

It seems like nearly every day a letter comes in the mail with a notification that your personal identification has been compromised and you are urged to take precautionary measures to be on the watch for someone falsely using your ID and masquerading as you. Those reprehensible uses can harm your credit rating, can smear your reputation, and can hit bluntly your savings or other monies that the hackers might be able to access and deplete.

Amid Pandemic and Upheaval, New Cyberthreats to the Presidential Election - The New York Times

With the general election less than 150 days away, there are rising concerns that the push for remote voting prompted by the pandemic could open new opportunities to hack the vote — for President Vladimir V. Putin of Russia, but also others hoping to disrupt, influence or profit from the election.

President Trump has repeatedly said that mail-in ballots invite voter fraud and would benefit Democrats. It is a baseless claim: Mail-in voting has resulted in little fraud in the five states that have used it for years, and a recent study at Stanford University found that voting by mail did not advantage either party and might increase voter turnout for both parties.

Now, the research arm — the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) — is turning the hardware over to elite white-hat hackers who can earn up to $25,000 for bugs they find. The goal is to throw an array of attacks at the hardware so its foundations are more secure before production.
