Several people called the CBS4 newsroom about the object while CBS4 photojournalist Jeremiah Bellile captured video of it.

A group called the Loon Project said they released a high altitude weather balloon in the area on Monday. The FAA agreed that’s most likely what it was.

E. Washington Man Directs National UFO Center | Spokane Public Radio

If you've ever reported seeing something unusual in the sky, chances are the news eventually reached the national tracking center for unidentified flying objects. That center is located in eastern Washington.

Little did he know then, but 40 years later, he would take over as director of the National UFO Reporting Center and move it to his home near Davenport, about 30 miles west of Spokane. The center is housed in an unusual location, deep underground at the site of a former Atlas ICBM missile site.

UFOs over Washington: The first report of 'flying saucers' | The Spokesman-Review

On June 24, 1947 – 73 years ago Wednesday – automatic firefighting system company owner and licensed pilot Kenneth Arnold of Boise, flying from Chehalis to Yakima, spotted nine large metallic-looking objects flying rapidly near Mount Rainier. It would be the first of many reports of "flying saucers" or unidentified flying objects from around the world.

While flying to Yakima on a sales call, Arnold read about a downed Marine C-46 transport that had crashed near Mount Rainier in January. With skies clear and a little time on his hands, Arnold lingered over the area in hopes of spotting the wreckage and earning a $10,000 reward.
