We all have seen the little toy models of the solar system that you can hold in your hands. All of the planets are different sizes but they all sit very close to one another.

If you are going for something easy to see and explain, it’s a great simple option. But the truth is, those models do not do our beautiful solar system justice for the scale of the planets or the distances between them!

So get ready to have your mind blown because this Doppler 9&10 STEM is going to be a trip, literally.

Rogue comet reveals clues about our solar system's origins - Big Think

One of the only interstellar visitors ever discovered traversing our Solar System, the rogue comet 2l/Borisov, is also one of the most "pristine" such space objects ever. The comet, which was first spotted in 2019 by the amateur Ukrainian astronomer Gennady Borisov, likely never flew too close to any star including our sun, which left its composition very similar to how it was upon formation.

The 2I/Borisov comet is only the second interstellar object ever found in our Solar System. The first one was 1I/'Oumuamua, detected in 2017.

Animation: Saturn's Rings Behave Like a 'Mini Solar System'

If star-hopping aliens ever visited our solar system, Saturn is probably the planet they'd remember.

The seven giant rings circling its equator make Saturn the most distinct planet orbiting the sun. It may not be obvious in images of the hula-hoop planet, but the ice and rock chunks that make up those rings are circling Saturn at rates nearly 70 times the speed of sound. What's more, each ring is moving at its own pace.

When he put his skills to work to depict Saturn's rings, O'Donoghue created an animation (below) that shows how the each ring moves through its own motions in a beautiful, circular dance.

Scientists detect X-rays from Uranus | Space | EarthSky

For the first time, scientists have detected X-rays being emitted by the planet Uranus. The discovery was made by a new analysis of data from NASA’s Chandra X-ray Observatory.

The space agency made the announcement on March 31, 2021, and the researchers published their discovery in the April 2021 issue of the the peer-reviewed Journal of Geophysical Research .

Wärtsilä lands energy storage project at Hickory Park Solar in the U.S.

The technology group Wärtsilä has again demonstrated its capabilities in advanced energy storage solutions with the award of a contract to supply an engineered equipment delivery (EEQ) of a 40 MW / 80 MWh DC-coupled solar plus storage system to the Hickory Park Solar project in Georgia, USA. The owner of the project is RWE Renewables, one of the world's leading renewable energy companies.

Wärtsilä's sophisticated GEMS Digital Energy Platform will control the entire hybrid plant, comprising close to 200 MW solar PV and a 80 MWh GridSolv Quantum energy storage system. GEMS monitors, synchronizes, and optimizes generation assets at increments of 100 milliseconds, using machine learning and historic and real-time data analytics to calibrate the type of generation needed at any specific time, all under a single portfolio.

Humans are also considering mining asteroids for metals, but one of the crucial reasons scientists study this ancient space rubble is planetary defence, given the potential for space debris to cause Earth harm.

Accordingly, NASA is planning a 2022 planetary defence mission  that involves sending a spacecraft to crash into a near-Earth asteroid in an effort to check whether it could be deflected were it on a collision course with Earth.

T HE LIST of people that have summited Mount Everest is hovering around the 10,000 mark. The long-hoped-for winter ascent of K2 was finally pulled off in January . The fourteen eight-thousand metre peaks have very much been 'done' in all seasons and in myriad styles of ascent. You might say that there aren't too many virgin, iconic mountains left to climb – on Earth, that is.

But what about beyond this planet? If we had the whole solar system as our playground and neither distance nor money nor technology were an object, where could we go climbing and what sort of fun could we expect?

Making the numbers work for a residential energy storage system – pv magazine USA

If you have a lot of power failures that last longer than 4 hours, a “Power Wall” or battery system can be worth it to keep your refrigerator or freezer cold enough for the food to not spoil. Your system needs to work without the utility, have an approved transfer switch to disconnect your off grid back up from the meter and have it’s own pure sine wave inverter built in.

I have a hard time believing that 18% of homes in the U.S. have a generator. I don’t know anybody that owns one – including my cousin who has a ranch in Texas. I would think it is closer to 1.8% and even then it is probably high. I would believe that 18% of homeowners don’t know what a generator is, though.

Flawed 'net energy metering' system needs to be fixed - Capitol Weekly | Capitol

This is why it is critical that reforms are made to the state's rooftop solar subsidy program called Net Energy Metering (NEM). Without changes, the rooftop solar program will continue to be the most expensive way to increase the renewable generation in the state and a driver of higher electricity rates in California.

Today credits for the excess solar power generated from rooftops are eight times higher than the price of the same solar power purchased from a large-scale solar system.
