This enlightening talk centers on our oldest cosmic neighbors, asteroids , and their importance to us here on Earth. Not only can asteroids shed light on the beginnings of the solar system, they also pose a massive risk to our safety.
For example, in 2013 the Chelyabinsk asteroid entered Earth's atmosphere over a remote area of Russia and created a shockwave that shattered windows, rocked buildings, and caused hundreds of injuries. A similar incident, on a much larger scale, is thought to be related to the fate of the dinosaurs. As a result, near-Earth asteroids are now constantly monitored in order to try and prevent another catastrophic strike on Earth.
Mars hope fulfilled – deep space beckons
After six years' work and an epic 204-day 480-million kilometre odyssey it all came down to a single 27-minute burn to insert the UAE Hope probe safely into Mars' orbit – and vindicate the Arab world's faith in the mission.
At stake was whether the probe was to skip off the thin Martian atmosphere and into deep space (to be lost forever among the stars), or be smashed into cosmic dust on the distant soil of the Red Planet.

The Perseverance rover split CO2 on Mars to make breathable air | Science News for Students
The Perseverance rover has created a breath of fresh air on Mars. An experimental device on the NASA rover split carbon dioxide molecules into their component parts. This created enough breathable oxygen to sustain a person for about 10 minutes. It was also enough oxygen to make tiny amounts of rocket fuel.
The toaster-size instrument that did this is called MOXIE. The acronym stands for Mars Oxygen In-Situ Resource Utilization Experiment. Carbon dioxide, or CO 2 , is the primary gas in the atmosphere on Mars. MOXIE's job is to break the chemical bonds in CO 2 , releasing oxygen.
