U.S. intelligence agencies are expected to deliver a report on "unidentified aerial phenomena" to Congress next month, sparking renewed interest and speculation into how the government has handled sightings of mysterious flying objects — and if there's any worldly explanation for them.
The unclassified report, compiled by the director of national intelligence and the secretary of defense, aims to make public what the Pentagon knows about unidentified flying objects and data analyzed from such encounters.

"We're going through our due diligence. Is it some sort of new type of cruise missile technology that China has developed? Is it some sort of high-altitude balloon that's conducting reconnaissance? Ultimately when you have exhausted all those what-ifs and you're still left with the fact that this is in our airspace and it's real, that's when it becomes compelling, and that's when it becomes problematic," Elizondo told the broadcast news outlet.
Also speaking on the same Sunday night segment, former Navy pilot David Fravor discussed a 2004 incident off Southern California in which he said he and three other pilots spotted an unexplained large area of roiling whitewater surrounded by a calm sea.

Bryson says he was in his Texas backyard with instructor Chris Como and friend Adam Hurley when they noticed "three little silver metallic discs" in the sky.
"They were all moving in a triangle shape," DeChambeau told hosts Gary McCord and Drew Stoltz. "We were out there for literally just under an hour thinking, 'What the heck is this?'"
According to DeChambeau, the three objects disappeared quickly when they went inside. The former physics major offered theories from a "Tony Stark individual doing things we can't explain" to "wormholes," before settling on this explanation.
