How UFO Sightings Went From Conspiracy Theory To A Serious Government Inquiry : NPR

In an image from video footage from 2015, an unexplained object is seen at center as it soars among the clouds, traveling against the wind. "There's a whole fleet of them," a naval aviator tells another, though only one indistinct object is shown. Department of Defense via AP hide caption

Are we alone? Have alien spacecraft been buzzing across Earth's skies? Those are the questions being asked in the U.S. government's new report on unexplained aerial phenomena — its preferred term for what many of us call unidentified flying objects, or UFOs.

Two big green aliens greet customers at the Dunkin Donuts drive-though, and down the street, silver E.T. sculptures sit outside a flying saucer-shaped McDonald's. Welcome to Roswell, N.M., the "UFO capital of the world" — site of a 1947 mysterious aircraft rash and alleged government cover-up.

There will be no UFO disclosure in 2021 — at least, not from the government

The report on UAPs (Unidentified Aerial Phenomena) demanded by Congress has not yet officially been released, but there's a story from The New York Times (and confirmed by NBC News ) purporting to give away the plot.

The report is supposed to describe what the intelligence agencies know about incidents involving unknown craft.

The report is supposed to describe what the intelligence agencies know about incidents involving unknown craft. Among these are the objects seen in several provocative videos made from cameras mounted on Navy fighter jets . Are they enemy drones? Camera artifacts? Extraterrestrial spacecraft?

Exclusive – Are UFOs and alien encounters real?

MADERA COUNTY, California. (KSEE) - A fire that burned 50 acres in Madera County on Sunday and prompted an evacuation warning is now 50% contained.

FRESNO, California. (KSEE) - On Sunday, one of Fresno's iconic buildings was the center of a two-alarm fire.

Around 4:00 p.m, the Fresno Fire Department says a fire engine responded to the Pacific Southwest Building near Fulton and Mariposa after receiving a report that a sprinkler system was going off on the 14th floor.

Other View: Don't expect extraterrestrials in Pentagon's UFO report | Duluth News

Did we ever tell you about the unidentified flying object discovered outside Baltimore? In 1949, a farm in Glen Burnie was briefly swarming with state troopers and military investigators checking out reports of a flying saucer. And, indeed, they found what were later described as "prototypes" of aircraft in a rundown barn, experiments in manned flight pieced together by an eccentric designer.

What might generously be described as a historical footnote to the nation's fascination with UFOs later turned up in documents eventually released by the U.S. Air Force and widely reported in 2015 as part of the service branch's "Project Blue Book," which investigated unexplained sightings from 1947 to 1969 and found no alien invaders, nor space-age technology.

Official Washington is rethinking UFOs - The Washington Post

Suddenly, all of Washington seems like a scene from a Hollywood film. No, the film isn't "Mr. Smith Goes to Washington." It isn't even "National Treasure." Space aliens may be responsible for the mood that currently grips the capital, but the movie isn't "The Day the Earth Stood Still," either.

The movie is "Galaxy Quest," the 1999 "Star Trek" sendup. And the scene is the one where a disillusioned sci-fi fanboy, played by Justin Long , gets a call from TV spaceship captain Tim Allen , who tells Long it was all real after all .

Joking aside, isn't it time we understand UFO reports?

On the morning of May 16, a man on his way to work in Belen saw "a big silver metal sphere in the sky not moving." He pulled over to take pictures. "I could see it clear as day," he said. The object didn't rotate or move. He continued on to work but an hour later asked his girlfriend to see if it was still there. It wasn't.

On May 14 in the early evening, a Los Alamos resident spotted a "bright gold ball low in the sky" just above the trees moving slowly in a straight line from east to west. Suddenly it was gone. The resident didn't think it was a satellite because it was so big and so low and made no sound.
